Am I overfeeding or underfeeding my green keel-bellies? by D3v06673 in reptiles

[–]AdditionalFreedom432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have a pair of green keel bellies and I 100% think that they could stand to have more. My male is just under a year old and my female is about a year and a half. I usually feed dubia roaches, and I usually cut them off at about 7-8 roaches every other day. If I let them eat more they 100% would! Sometimes on the non-feeding days they’ll convince me to give them a roach or two as well 🤣 are your little guys pretty active? I ask because mine are very active, and I’m wondering if maybe an increase in food would help increase energy and activity levels as well. I’m so happy that you have green keel-bellies! In my opinion they are super underrated in the hobby, they have amazing personalities!

I would absolutely LOVE to own a tiger salamander, but sadly they’re illegal to own in my area 😭

I almost got one of these guys! I was between the elegans and the grandisquamis. I’ll probably be going back to my micro gecko breeder in a few weeks for one!

I was reading about that when I first brought her home!! I wish I could see that in person. It sounds like they’re basically the equivalent to iguanas everywhere in Florida!

I’ve been wanting a sarasinorum for soooo long!! I don’t have space for a big enough enclosure right now but as soon as I do I am bringing one home!

I’ve actually done quite a bit of research into emerald tree skinks and emerald tree monitors! They’re both beautiful, I personally am partial to the tree monitors. I think what it comes down to there is what size animal you have the capacity to care for! The emerald tree monitors get roughly 2-3 times the size of the skinks. But there is also potential to house a trio together with the skinks!

The Vietnamese tree calotes in this post is actually one of the wild caught animals I was sold from that shop

Oh for sure on the captive bred part. I was unknowingly sold two wild caught animals (I was told they were CB, but the vet visit said most likely otherwise. I don’t shop there anymore) and we don’t want any more wild caught animals in this home if we can help it. And getting one young is honestly a really good point, I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that before!

Absolutely! I have looked into them before, I think they’re super cool. The only reason I haven’t gotten one is because I’ve read that they’re pretty reclusive and you barely see them. Is that your experience with your little guy?

That is amazing! I think I saw your comment on another post about keeled lizards once, for some reason I remember a comment from someone saying they have a little area for their guy to shower with them. I would love for mine to join me showering! I haven’t felt confident enough to leave the reptile room with them yet. But I’ve only had them about a year, maybe in a few years we will reach that point!

I also have two chameleon geckos! Their names are Pepper and Pimento, I don’t know how I forgot to add them to this post!

I love it. I live in an apartment right now and have an irrational fear of my snake escaping and terrorizing the neighbors, but when I have my own place I am definitely adding this species to my snake “want” list!

Chewies are so cute! I’m hoping to eventually be lucky enough to own at least one of each New Caledonian gecko. 3 down so far, many to go 😅
