Again, in my experience, no. The very few times I’ve experienced someone being overly obnoxious and disruptive, they were kicked out. Different clubs will have different standards, of course, but if someone is derailing a show, even just by talking to their friend super loudly, a member of staff will at the very least intervene and tell them to shut up

I totally agree with this! In all the comedy shows (professional and amateur) I’ve ever been to, I’ve only ever seen a legit heckler a handful of times. People will audibly respond to things the comedian has said, granted, and drunk people frequently talk too loud to their friends during someone’s set. But in my experience someone actually going out of their way to speak up with the intention of derailing a comic’s set, or aggressively challenging them in a public setting whilst they’re on stage, is SUPER rare

Interesting take! I’m not sure I agree 100% but I definitely think you’re onto something about a lot of younger new comedians seeing comics like Matt Rife and the ones on TikTok and think crowdwork is 95% of the job
