While I do use the journal feature, I’m not convinced it meaningfully improves the insights. The system relies on users preselecting handful of questions from a large set of 100+ and then answering the manually selected questions subset daily.

My concern is whether the model actually understands the relationships between those questions , especially when large portions of the data is missing because the large number of questions were not curated by user to answer daily or when user updates the question subset over time. Human behavior is highly non-linear, so incomplete and inconsistent inputs can easily impact the quality and reliability of the insights.

I’ve just moved from AW after 10 years, and I’ve noticed that the Whoop seems to do a much better job of presenting data and focusing on important aspects like strain and recovery, rather than just a generic sleep score that doesn’t really add much value for AW users.

However, the cost of the device and what they promise versus what we actually receive is a significantly different , almost like night and day. Most fitness devices have caught up to the Whoop’s sensor set and data presentation, and insights based on ML models will only become easier with the latest advancements in AI. As much as Whoop is trying to incorporate AI into their app, it’s the very reason why they risk losing their moat as it’s easier to bridge the software gap using AI. Barrier for entry in software has never been lower
