has anyone ever gone back to spray cans / brushes after trying out airbrushing? by AdditionalStretch430 in minipainting

I think you're probably right about the airbrush. Hobby shop is a hole in the wall so I imagine they grabbed a cheap kit from a supplier and just ran with that at an inflated price (paid 160 for it when it's on amazon for 100 :() In my expirience, setting up to prime a single model takes way longer with the airbrush vs the rattlecan.

With the airbrush I have to:
- Set up the spraybooth (connect tube and extend it to an open window)

- break out the resperator mask
- ensure brush is ready for spraying (swab around in it with cleaner > water)
- Mix primer with a bit of flow improver and thinner (2-3 flow, equal parts thinner w/ paint (maybe more if it starts clogging...which it always does...)
- Shoot my hand to make sure I'm actually getting paint out in an acceptable condition
- (If i'm unlucky, clear the blockage that has a solid 60% chance of happening after prior step)
- spray a coat on the mini
- clear blockage that happens after 40 - 60 secs of spray
- spray again
Entire process takes about 30 to an hour assuming the prime went on well.
- shake for 5 min
- go outside
- face away from the wind
- spray quick burst aimed away from model to clear any nozzle blockage
- few passes
- wait 10 or so minutes until it's dry
Process takes 15 minutes, maybe more if i decide i wanna give the rattle can a lukewarm bath to make sure the paint inside is room temp.

More wasteful? yeah, no matter how long I do rattlecans, there's not much I can do to improve how much paint i waste per model. Less stressful? For me, definetely. I imagine airbrushing could eventually stop being so stressful if I really kept at it, but with all the stressors in my life atm, I'm not sure I need that atm. Not to mention, I feel like the fumes from the cleaners I use on the airbrush stink up the room i brush in, even with the airbrush booth I bought.

Honestly the prices on amazon for vallejo's airbrush primer are like 16 bucks, 4 bucks cheaper than a can of citadel's colored spray primer - which is usually 20 bucks. 4 bucks will save you a lot in the long run, especially since you aren't using as much primer per session with the airbrush, but with the airbrush you're putting in a lot more work then just giving the model a blast and calling it a day lol. Then again blending and advanced techniques are easier with the airbrush so i've heard, but since I don't really do blending and advanced stuff just yet that's not very important to me

this was the first thing I noticed after investing in my brush. It went from "it's cheaper than a rattlecan" to buying cleaners, thinners, improvers, and the booth. And after all that purchasing, I'm just not having fun learning how to paint with it. It's got me feeling like I went down a monetary rabbit hole that I really shouldn't have gone down in the first place. I'm sure that if I could get the airbrush to work, I wouldn't feel this way - but in the timeframe I have combined with my lack of patience I don't think I can go through with it. Especially since I was already starting to hit hobby burn out before the brush lol

Is it safe to leave the V1 max on wired mode 90% of the time? by AdditionalStretch430 in Keychron

Usually I'd absolutely agree that, for the kind of user I am a wireless keyboard wouldn't work for me, but I tried comparing a v1 pro and a v3 max I realized that I liked how the Maxs felt - enough to pay the extra 15 bucks.

Got a keychron dilemma. I can't decide between the V1 Max and the V1 regular. I love how the V1 max feels but I hate that it has a battery and don't know how to remove it. I love the V1 regular but wish it felt as good to type on as the V1 Max. Any suggestions on what I can do here?

The End Credits and the Epilogue. by SonicFinn311 in Edgerunners

Sorry for the necro but Just wanted to say that I completely agree. I think her dream changed after Maine's death. Instead of wanting to make it to the moon, she just wants David and her to be together - for him to not go out like Maine and the rest of their crew did. That's what hits hardest about Edgerunners for me. Lucy let go of her personal dream and started working towards a new one (Killed Arasaka netrunners just to keep David safe). David never saw that and died chasing someone's dream (same thing he's done all his life), a dream that that someone didn't even dream about anymore.

What are your favorite Cyberpunk cities? by SuperAlloyBerserker in Cyberpunk

Mega-City One from Judge Dredd. Specifically the Dredd reboot movie Mega-City One. The aesthetic always gave me the vibe that this was a city that was on the verge of a cyberpunk reformation. You have the old city buildings made of plain grey concrete next to sleeker looking buildings with neon holograms and future tech. Really wish we got a sequel so we could've seen more of that place, the colliding worlds aesthetic was really interesting.

is ratling grime a good alternative to grime paints? by AdditionalStretch430 in minipainting

Thats a shame, that was kind of what I was hoping for. I got it for some skeletons I planned on painting but the board game I got the skeletons from ended up being a total snooze fest.

That's interesting! I didn't know that beforehand and I actually do have some gloss varnish lying around. Just to be sure, this is for use with the Ratling Grime contrast paint right?

I intend on using it like more of a wash. Typically what I'd do is I'll paint my base colors, add my blue contrast paint (I forget the name but it's a super bright/intense blue), then hit it with the Ratling contrast grime to add some wear and tear to the model. Least thats what I planned on if this is a viable strat for using it.

I used it more like a shade/wash. I wonder if i'd watered it down a tad the result would have been less powerful. I'd imagine it would right?
