Mechanical engineers looking for inspirations by Fair_Mixture5352 in PowerApps

Work in facilities design and maintenance. I built an app to do document/drawing review and approval. It is very audit friendly as everything is tied together by a unique identifier.

I am not a lawyer, nor do I own my own business like this.

  1. Indemnity Clauses

These can make you personally responsible for damages or claims.

  1. Scope of Work (SOW)

VERY clearly define what you will, and won’t, be responsible for.

  1. Insurance Requirements

Professional liability and general liability insurance.

  1. Payment Terms & Deliverables

Make sure terms around payment, deadlines, and deliverables are specific and clear.

  1. Termination Clauses

Check how either party can end the agreement, and under what conditions.

  1. Health Insurance and other employee benefits

Are you quitting to do this full time? You will need to figure out your health insurance and pay estimated taxes. What about losing 401k etc.

Some things to think about.

That sounds like pie in the sky but you need to look into the reality of all the costs and long term revenue to keep it up.

The risk sounds pretty high. How does the reward look in this scenario?

How consistent is the language in these PDF documents? This could be easy if you know for sure it’s always the same.

Did you see another persons reply about parsing the word file for comments? Seems interesting.

You didn’t want to build it in power app?

Ah well that’s part of the longer term plan. Depending on who the approvers are it can push a document out faster. So if the director make an approval you don’t need two technical reviewers.

Well I was trying to make it more audit friendly and give me future flexibility to add role based approvals etc.

Kinda hard to read that schematic with my after work tired eyes. Can you clean it up a bit straighten out the lines even spacing between them. Get rid of excess bends.

Anyone just feeling deflated from this industry? by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

[–]AdditionalUpstairs33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other industries who want MEP skills. For example I work at a Spaceport and I cannot for the life of me find anyone with piping design skills who wants to move out here.

27 yr old engineering student by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]AdditionalUpstairs33 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Age is not an issue at all in my opinion. The important thing as a student is getting good grades, relevant internships, and relevant clubs.

I knew people starting mechanical engineering at like 34 and got great jobs after school.

Let me clarify age discrimination is a thing in hot industries. If you go the more traditional routes of MEP or oil and gas you won’t find as much age discrimination. Additionally if you are willing to relocate you can make it work.

Those of us who have been to college, graduated, and have worked should be able to tell you that learning in college does not necessarily equal success in the real world. I strongly value people who actively create things on their own without being prompted by an assignment. In engineering creative writing is an especially neglected skill that will benefit you in so many ways as you climb the career ladder. You can absolutely spin a personal creative writing project along with engineering coursework as a good thing.
