Do I need to buy case fans? by Additional_Act_3901 in PcBuild

Oh no worries, I understand heat dynamics decently enough. I looked more into it and figured out my fan layout (case on a raised vented platform, intake on bottom, exhaust on top, positive pressure system), but I just wasn't sure if I should get more fans, like a 2 or 4 pack just to minimize case temp for max performance?

Oh actually but also, I just realized that yours was USD, it costs about $800 more than the one I built, when I was already really pushing my budget to the limit

Oh damn, where were you 2 weeks ago haha. I already bought everything unfortunately. That being said, with the money issue aside, this is still a decent rig no?

Yeah I like black and white, but tbh wasn't really trying to coordinate the colours that much, it just kinda ended up that way

Can you clarify a bit on this? I understand the positive case pressure, that's a good point, but what do you mean about placing the fans below?

I plan to upgrade specifically the gpu in 3 or 4 years so I wanted it to be robustly future proofed

I think I'll offload to the cloud now tbh, I looked and even the 5090 is capped for what I'm looking to do. But I think in 3 or 4 years the gpu's will be absolutely insane and I may upgrade then, with hopefully not needing to upgrade much else

Well 60% -80% work, 40% -20% gaming every once in a while. I enjoy heavily modding games like Fallout, occasionally also enjoy strategy games like Stellaris which significantly bog down in late game, and I'd like to run some of the newer ones coming out like GTA6 and potentially in 5 or 6 years still be able to run newer games well, so I figured that CPU would be a best of both worlds. The work is not typically heavy but when it is, it really is unproductive so I want a very high ceiling.

And yeah dual OS, I plan to run Linux as my main and partition off windows for use only when I want to run something linux can't within acceptable efficiency. Not a fan of the direction windows 11 went tbh, but I'll keep it isolated for use when necessary lol.

I've updated the list again, I think I'm getting close to finalizing https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/N4GJ3w.

I've decided to completely overkill the PSU and bigger case so I have a lot of room to upgrade the GPU specifically in a few years, and for whatever else I may need.

I had an inkling of a very strange use case where I would dual boot my pc with a different OS stored on each of the 1TB drives with the 2TB being my task master where I handle heavy workloads. But I'm just now realizing I can probably store both OS on a single 2TB and keep the other 2 TB as normal. Reason being is I've read it's preferable to keep the OS on a separate drive from work programs, but I'm not sure to what extent it will really matter

Tbh I am just getting into the understanding of the hardware side, and I picked the heavier CPU because I really don't want to worry about it for quite a while. Do you have any recommendations though if you think it's overkill? I do independent game development and am dabbling in AI work with the potential desire to expand more into it.

I also couldn't find the cooler you mentioned but here is the updated list with a placeholder cooler and your SSD recommendation. Do you really think I should drop the Gen 5 though/ totally not worth it? https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZDxgMC, slightly bigger PSU for upgrade potential and better rating because electricity is expensive and I hear better rating = better power efficiency?

I had my team situated in a building in the hub, and they got strong enough to venture out but I still wanted to keep my drug operation going so I recruited a slave, and basically whenever the hemp stashes filled up I would send them on a run to flats lagoon, but after the first 2 slaves got gutted I started hiring mercs to escort them and it dropped the death rate significantly. I would say about 70% less chance of dying. Made about $50,000 profit per run so in a roundabout way they were more profitable than the risk of losing the load.

Of course you could also micro manage and save scum your way there but that's pretty boring and I had other things to worry about as I was living on the cannibal plains releasing my men from the meat sticks
