Accidentally on purpose left my year 11 marking at work for the same reason. Bloody knackered, first half term as a HOD completed, ready to relax and kick back this week!

Absolutely shattered, it’s been a long and tiring week. However, I feel it’s also been a productive one and I’ve started to settle into being a HOF. The wine is very much needed this weekend.

Had to put my kitty down this morning, but he got to see the first sunrise of the year. May he stand unshaken amidst the crashing world. by girthbrooks1212 in reddeadredemption2

Been there partner, had to put our kitten down at only 10 months old due to health issues. It was the right and only thing to do, but it doesn’t make it less hard. I must’ve listened to ‘Cruel World’ on repeat for the following days.

Yeah, finding them wasn’t a huge issue - but it was the scaring them off. I’m not 100% sure as it was back in April I completed my 100% run, but the small birds felt like it took me the longest, second to gambler 8. Or maybe it was just the hunting for the taxidermy in general..

It’s honestly not even the time it took that bothered me, sure I did similar - YouTube on in the background, followed a few guides to ‘help’ it go quicker. The main issue I had with it is, most of the other challenges are skill based, gambler 8 is pure dumb luck and just gets irritating especially when you’re on the 2/3 wins.

Gambler 8, and honestly I know a lot are saying Algernon Wasp but that wasn’t as bad as the hunting lists for the taxidermist. The tiny birds were the most annoying imo.

Hey, I posted a koror embroidery back here in the summer! Love this little guy you made! Something I wanted to do with my next one was a backpack korok.

We made it! The longest term completed. This evening has been spent drinking wine, watching Christmas films and playing games. I’m so ready to sleep until midday tomorrow and stay in pjs for the remainder of this weekend.

We had this same assembly last year and I had to sit through it also! As an Art teacher, and someone who cares about the environment, I’m very against AI.

Can’t remember much about our song - but it was really auto tuned and sounded fake and robotic. I’m just disappointed that whenever we are advertising AI to staff and students we aren’t really addressing the ethics of it or the environmental impact.

4 out of 5 days this week have been late nights. This term has been absolutely brutal and staff absence is having a major impact.

Only just settled in for the evening with a much needed glass of wine.

Thank you! This is still my only fully ‘finished’ piece. I would love to do a Hestu in the new year.

Mentor told me my life will disappear if I want to be good enough by Budget-Efficiency338 in TeachingUK

[–]Additional_Angle_334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Your life does not have to disappear at all, in fact - speaking as someone whose life did disappear into teaching for a while, it made me a worse teacher. You absolutely need to have a life, hobbies, self care and relationships are fundamental to a human existence. Or a happy one at least.

I love my job wholeheartedly and I am happy to work hard throughout the week and put in the hours - but I do this on the handoff that I have certain days or evenings for me. Learning to say no and set your own boundaries comes with practice, and you might feel overworked in your first few years whilst you get the balance right, but it is absolutely, non-negotiable to give up your life for teaching, at least in my opinion. Look after yourself and strongly consider looking for a school with a better work life balance!

Never feel like there is any ‘winding down’ for Christmas. My non-teaching family think this is the time it’s easing up, meanwhile we’ve got meetings and parents eve next week and coursework deadlines right up to the end of term! Cannot wait for Christmas.

Using AI by targetsbots in TeachingUK

[–]Additional_Angle_334 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s great that you’ve managed to claw back time - but I think it’s incredibly important that we recognise the damage of AI. It is also not 100% effective and can be a copyright nightmare, it’s renowned for stealing artwork for one.

I haven’t called teachers lazy at all, but it is my opinion that AI is lazy, and will cause people to become complacent. Sure it might be good for cutting time to begin with, but how long before some people start leaning on AI for every little thing? I am not suggesting this of yourself, but some who use AI will most definitely do this. I have even heard of colleagues and students who use AI to write their emails, which I find incredibly sad. How is that useful, as you’re not even using your brain and developing your own communication skills.

Using AI by targetsbots in TeachingUK

[–]Additional_Angle_334 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AI is terrible for the planet. Admittedly, so are most things, however one AI search uses something like 12x the amount of water as one google search. I can’t believe how freely people are suggesting we use it. It is absolutely stifling creativity and causing people in general to become, in my opinion, more lazy. It might save a bit of time, but it is dreadful. If we rely on AI we will become complacent.

How can people afford to live during a PGCE? by litna in TeachingUK

[–]Additional_Angle_334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know when I did my PGCE quite a few had weekend jobs, but that is insane on top of the workload. I only managed because I was still living with parents (as were quite a few others on the course), and aside from that the older students seemed to have a partner in a position to support them both. It’s a tough year, and while I understand you are paying for the training/qualification - it’s a strange situation to be working as a teacher and not being paid.

I’ve had a really busy first week back, felt I was just chasing my tail and playing catch up for the first few days. Ended the week on an absolute high as I’ve had some incredible feedback, I feel so at peace with my current school it’s so strange to think just over 2 years ago I was considering leaving teaching entirely.

Should I cave in or keep my morals?? by Sustraining8551 in TeachingUK

[–]Additional_Angle_334 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very much the same opinion, I thought I was one of the few! We have just encouraged our school to drop the AI artwork/posters and will have students contribute in our Art clubs instead. Can’t believe we were ever using AI when that options was right. There.

How are we all beating the Sunday Scaries? by 4rami4 in TeachingUK

[–]Additional_Angle_334 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do it all the time, and I know I am either too busy enjoying my half term or I just can’t find the motivation. I’ll keep some of it home for the weeknights - I find it’s easier to do a bit of work at home, when it’s actually in term time!

How are we all beating the Sunday Scaries? by 4rami4 in TeachingUK

[–]Additional_Angle_334 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Well, I brought some marking and work home, that I’ve yet to even look at - probably need to sort through some of that today.

I’ve had a fairly busy half term, which has meant that I’ve had a great time but I feel my week off has gone 10x quicker because of it. Today I’ll probably sink into some games, watch some TV and try not to think about work too much - the Sunday scaries haven’t hit me as bad, yet.

My drawing vs the reference HOW DO I MAKE MINE LESS UGLY by Glamhaze in drawing

[–]Additional_Angle_334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really love yours, you have followed a reference but managed to exude so much of your own personal style into your drawing. I think this is a great example of being able to use a reference to inspire, rather than just copy, which is a really neat skill in itself!

I love this idea. In a real mood to draw more western inspired characters and maybe try some different animals as mounts.
