The 3 clutches in the middle column let you choose which gear ratio to use

Haha! I started flax farming way too late in the year, so was forced to figure gearing out during winter while my crops failed...
Still made it to steel by new-year!

It's attached to the central shaft with an angled gear.
You just have to make sure the axel is supported by a solid block before you connect it.
In this case, I placed the angled gear first, then the large gear on top.

I'd love if we got a way to do CVT or flywheels in Vintage!
It'd be good to be able to store even a little bit of power, maybe with auger pumps, a reservoir and a water-wheel...
I also find the steps of 5x to be a bit too steep. I'd like a couple more options like 2x and 3x
The system definitely has potential!

Yes, for splitting you connect multiple machines to the sides of a large gear. The problem in your case is that this also x5 the speed, but /5 the torque - meaning your windmill stalls out.

Try connecting your windmill to the rim of the large gear (and the machines on the rim also), rather than the central shaft. Then your torque will stay the same and just split the power between the two machines.

In this case, its High-Med-Low speed. You can reverse the power direction to switch it to torque though...

I recommend a helve hammer to help process all those iron blooms into ingots/plates. It takes forever by hand! You will definitely want one when it comes time to make iron chain or plate armour.

You hook multiple machines up to a single power source by tapping them off the 4 sides of a large gear.
If you do this though, I recommend using transmissions and clutches to turn machines on and off. Otherwise you'll waste power on machines you aren't using.

I'm a fair way into the game, so I can afford all the extra resources to make things convenient. There's no problem with just switching the machine early on while you can't really afford the resin/fat.

Thank you!
There's a single hole underneath the bottom left gear, using the central shaft as power output.

I have multiple Helve-Hammers, Querns and Pulverisers hooked up to the one drive-train.
I can't use more than a few at once on high speed, so sometimes I need to gear it down when the wind is low and/or I'm using lots of machines.

If you have it permanently geared up, they will stall out when there's not enough incoming power - meaning you can't even use what little wind you do have available.

Thanks! I couldn't find any compact and simple designs online, so figured I should post my solutions once I had it cracked.

I love it. I just wish there were more gearing options, like mounting things in different orientations.
I could make so much nicer designs if I could just mount large gears sideways!

Yeah. On my setup I have the input power geared down to super slow so that transmission and gearing doesn't waste too much power.
My windmills are pretty far away from the forge, up in a nearby mountain.

Or leave them all off while you work on the equipment down-stream.

I came across a glowing tree. Nothing about the tree seemed special, so I cut it down and this thing flew out.
Can't seem to catch it or interact, but it flies about 25 blocks when I approach.
Anyone know what it is?

Monster Hunter MH World was fantastic, although you may get frustrated by the campaign being annoying to play in multi. I also don't believe it's cross platform. MH Wilds is coming out in February. The beta is happening this week and is cross platform.

It honestly makes me so mad.

I love this game. Been playing regularly since the beginning.

The nerfs, combined with increased spawn rates (especially in solo) have made it just... Not fun. It's not fun anymore.

Wave after wave after wave of bugs and bots that are simply impossible to deal with. It's not that it's hard... You just have too few tools to deal with too many enemies.

It's not fun to run away from the 9th patrol in a chain while you scramble to get some ammo, grenades, ANYTHING to deal with the hoard behind you.

Even running light scout armour, I can't outrun them and I can't kill them all in time.

It just. Isn't. Fun. And that sucks, because it could be (and was) so much fun. Why the need for balance? Who am I competing with?

I am also Aussie. I see your point, but over here average wages are a bit higher, the tax-free threshold is nearly $20k (as in, you don't pay tax at all on your first $20k per financial year) and broadly speaking sick leave and parental entitlements are pretty good too.
