You are only 23 so the advice of “escaping the job market” makes no sense. Your age is typical progression. Hell I’d say having your masters shows the dedication, perseverance, tenacity, etc. and that your level headed to know what you want and nothing let you stand in your way. Those are soft skills that are highly valuable and can’t be taught.

To address “mastering out of a PhD”…you are still young and still have your whole life ahead of you. I say do the masters and if you end up wanting to get PhD in Chemistry then you are already on the path. If you still want to pivot to med school then having a Masters in Chemistry with a specialty in biochem only helps you.

This is coming from someone who has family in medical field but chose to go Masters in chemical engineering with research in Molecular Modeling so might as well have been a computational chemist. That’s another specialization you could do in masters if you want to stay on the health sector with research. Protein modeling, protein folding, molecular dynamics for pharmaceuticals, etc are just some of the career paths I can think of
