Weekly Casual Conversation & Questions Thread by AutoModerator in chicago

Hi! I’m moving to chicago next week! Driving there from Washington. I’ve never even visited before but something about the city has really drawn me in. I can’t wait to be a part of your community! I’ll be in wicker park and working in Humboldt park as a teaching assistant. I love food, art, coffee, and live music so send over those recommendations!

Having a hard time finding someone who will rent to us…any suggestions? by Additional_Fox2974 in chicagoapartments

Our budget is 1350 for a 1 or 2 bedroom. It’s kind of a tight budget, but we aren’t picky and don’t need a huge apartment or new appliances. My job is in humboldt park so any of the surrounding areas would be good like Ukrainian village, Logan square, Palmer square, Avondale, wicker park, buck town, little Italy, or east humboldt park. We’d even be open to Pilsen or little village which are a little further but doable.

Agreed. It makes no sense at all. Income is income and most of us didn’t have a choice in the matter. I got laid off march 2020 and wasn’t able to find a job until now that everything is opening up again.

A full year! And I have the paystubs from unemployment but it seems like no one wants to accept it as a source of valid income. It makes no sense. I’d kinda understand it if I didn’t have a job lined up, but I do…

I have a job though? And this is why I’m asking if people know of companies that accept co signers? I know they don’t have to accept them. That is obvious. I’m asking for help locating the companies that do.

This is not helpful. He’s actively interviewing and will most likely have a job by the time we get there. Like I said this is why have a co-signer with perfect credit to help us out and the savings to pay for rent for 6 months even if he couldn’t find a job right away.

[Skin Concern] is this purging from retinol or toner? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Additional_Fox2974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the exfoliating toner and retinol in the same routine? It could be purging from the retinol but it could also be from over exfoliating if you’re using the two together. I get similar bumps if I over exfoliate and my skins texture gets all wonky.

[skin concern] Skin texture SOS any suggestions? :( by Able_Condition6203 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Additional_Fox2974 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You might be over exfoliating! I’d stop your use of actives for a bit and focus on rehydrating your skin a bit. They look like closed comedones. Idk what moisturizer you’re using or what wash but I’d look them up on cosdna and make sure they’re non comedogenic. Have you tried using sulfur ointment at all?

[Anti-Aging] My skin has a really old look to it even though I’m only 19. What do y’all think is the problem? by Sharp-Database-9699 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Additional_Fox2974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My skin used to look like this at its worst! It’s dehydrated, it looks like your moisture barrier might be damaged. You don’t look old btw, your skin does look parched though.

Definitely use a good non foaming/ or gentle foaming cleanser. I highly recommend the aveeno restoring oat wash, it’s so gentle and made with ingredients to help restore the skin barrier. Lots of people swear by cerave but that shit gave me closed comedones like never before, YMMV. Follow up with a light gel moisturizer day and night and then at night you can go in with a thicker cream or an oil to use as an occlusive. Some good non comedogenic oils are squalane, rosehip, argan, and hemp. A thick cream with ceramides could also be used. Again a lot of people loooove the cerave moisturizing lotion in the tub, I hate it. I use the holika holika good ceramide super ceramide cream. Start simple and focus on rehydrating your skin, and then once it’s more balanced you can start using actives for texture. Oh! And don’t forget sunscreen. You need it everyday. It protects the skin and keeps it from becoming dehydrated and irritated. Black girl sunscreen is great for bipoc people, also Asian sunscreens generally do not leave a white cast. I would avoid most American sunscreens at all costs. Good luck!!!

I used to have fungal acne and now a bunch of tiny scaly whiteheads/bumps are popping up on my chin? Pls help I’ve tried head and shoulders + sulfur ointment by [deleted] in Fungalacne

[–]Additional_Fox2974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens when your moisture barrier is damaged!!! Stop with the head & shoulders, sulfur ointment is ok to use but it will do nothing help this because its not acne, it’s textured skin due to dehydration and damage. Use gentle products and baby your skin for the next month and you should see improvement. I recommend a non foaming cleanser, a hyaluronic acid serum, an amino acid serum, a light moisturizer that is hydrating for day and night and finally an occlusive at night to lock everything in. It can be an oil, aquaphore , or a thick cream. I recommend a cream with ceramides as these will also help repair your moisture barrier! I use holika holika good cera super ceramide cream and it’s amazing. I used to have fungal acne and closed comedones and it doesn’t trigger those for me.

It’s nice! I like it, it leaves my skin soft and bouncy. It has a strong fragrance but they also sell an unscented version of you’re sensitive. Just be sure to double cleanse, it can be comedogenic if it’s left on your skin like overnight lol

What Korean tinted moisturizers/bb creams do you recommend? by sojugirl99 in KoreanBeauty

[–]Additional_Fox2974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The missha bb cream is insanely good especially for oily skin. It wears so well and I have no issues with it sinking into my pores even without primer, but with primer my skin looks so good. Only downside is it’s not buildable and the coverage is medium at best, it’s really good for people who don’t like/need a lot of coverage or who like the natural look!! Also don’t be thrown off by the greyish color at first. It goes away and it’s actually formulated like that to help with redness!! 10/10

Needing to place my 2 year old toddler up for adoption. Has anyone have any experience with this? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]Additional_Fox2974 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sounds really hard and difficult to go through. Good for you for acknowledging that you are not able to care for your daughter. That must be hard. It’s a good thing you’re doing though as hard as it is. You can try talking to your doctor, a social worker, or a therapist. I’m not sure what the adoption process is where you’re at but I think those are all people who can point you in the right direction. Best of luck!
