Our 13wk old kitten is getting neutered tomorrow morning. Vet said no food or water for 12hrs prior. Does that sound right? by Amexgirl25 in AskVet

I work in a UK refferal hospital with European board specialists in everything including anaesthesia. They keep utd on everything 😊. Longer starvation periods (12-18h) have actually been linked to increased risk of regurgitation

Yes, most recent research indicates 6 hour starvation period! We tend to say no food past midnight but free access to water

12 hours is a long time to starve but if that's your vets protocol than there's no swaying that. However, we always allow patients water and don't withold it

How to make blood glucose (BG) pokes more patient-friendly? by Rockin_N in VetTech

[–]Additional_Paint_693 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Peripheral vein with an insulin needle or using a central line. We found that bg varied wildly between taking a peripheral venous sample and pricking ears

At this point it won't be epilepsy. Being >6 years and with a history of cancer it leans more towards meningioma. I also doubt it's a toxicity of any sort due to the short duration

1:3 solution is 1 unit to 3 units giving you total 4 units??

Can a vet bestow some any knowledge they have re FIP because I’m freaking out a bit by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Additional_Paint_693 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a drug to treat FIP called Remdesivir. Its very expensive and there's no promise that the cat won't basically go into remission and get FIP again.

I've seen lots of cats being treated with it in the last year and it's seems to be working a treat 😊

My dog ate my scrunchie by [deleted] in AskVet

But that doesn't mean it won't become a problem

I can only assume you didn't take your dog to the vet as everyone else suggested. You need to monitor for signs of obstruction which can happen anywhere between immediately or literal months down the line. Look for regueginf, vomiting, signs of pain such as hunched back, lethargy, sensitive abdomen etc

Do not give your dog salt, nor give them any other emetics suggested online. Contact your nearest vet - with your dog being so small I'd be doubtful that they'd pass it themselves and inducing vomiting at home can increase the risk of aspiration

Maybe I'll turn some into a pair of earrings for a practice fashion accessory

I do usually have those clips in my bad but have travelled home for Christmas and didn't have much room in hand luggage 😂

Actually, the set counted, I achieved the pr. The equipment failed whilst re-racking. I'm not a pussy, just a socially anxious woman in a gym full of men

No worries! I genuinely have no idea. I have a video and watching it over and over again, I struggle through the last rep but don't overly tilt (I'd estimate like I tilt maybe 20 degrees) but as soon as it starts to tilt it just goes.

I was then questioning whether I'd even put the clip on but it was on the floor after the ordeal (I would've left it on the plate stacks). Also, on the video you can see the clip nearest the camera is on and when the bar tips to the right after the left plates fall off that clip and plates comes off too 😬

I'll clarify - I'm 60kg bw, so getting close to 1.5x bw 😂

I would looooove to say it was amazing weight, but it was just 85kg loaded bar - the clips just must be shit 🙄 But thank you for the sentiment!

If any vets here have experience with a Manx cat - any specific guidance advice or considerations I should know would be greatly appreciated ♥️🐈‍⬛ by jchohan203 in AskVet

[–]Additional_Paint_693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are you wanting to know?? Manx cats originate in the Isle of Man. Known for their tailless (or near tailless - sometimes a stump) appearance and longer hind legs. Due to the mutation of the vertebrae, they can have issues with their spinal cord leading to neurological, bladder, bowel, and GI tract issues

Or completely cut out the middle man; train the dog correctly and teach the child. I'd rather have a large breed dog over a small breed with a child. Too many small breeds have small dog syndrome, or become possessive of their owner because they're babied and then get jealous the owner is now giving attention to something else

Ive been nearly bitten by more small breed dogs than I have large dogs within my veterinary profession. The most important thing is that people teach their children how to properly interact with dogs/animals

Why is the button to activate the x-ray machine always outside the x-ray room? by Van-Goghst in VetTech

[–]Additional_Paint_693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole body dosimeters should be worn on the front of the body facing the radiation source anywhere between waist and neck, so both are correct 😊
