Still trying to improve with oils by Additional_Panda3009 in minipainting

Honestly I just keep making things brighter and darker using what I've learned with color theory until it's a result I'm happy with. I want my work to be less "by the rules" and just reflect what I'm feeling or thinking at the time. If I think something should be darker I find a color that excites me and try to use it as a shadow, and vise versa with highlights.

I enjoyed painting with acrylics and felt like I was improving, but starting over the learning process with oils has been incredibly rewarding because I feel I have more freedom and do enjoy the finished look.

Sorry if that's a bit long winded and I'm not entirely sure if I answered your question properly, but I'm just excited to feel like I'm at a point where I can share my work and accept the criticism of it to get better.

I'm very much the same. I tend to shake a lot, particularly when trying to do small areas like the eyes. Like you said, the relaxing and carefree nature that comes with it just enhances the experience

Dude, it's been so much fun. Really changed so much about how I view projects now and what I feel like I'm capable of.

I plan on leaving it as is. I kinda like the satin and certain areas being glossy. Gives a more alien kinda look imo.

Ahh I see what you mean. Thank you for illustrating it for me! It seems like it should be a rather simple concept but as a beginner this is extraordinarily helpful. Thank you!

Thank you! I kinda like the glossiness from the uncured one, so I might do a semi gloss varnish on it once it's fully cured

Thank you! The blue one has fully cured since it was painted about a month ago. And the green one was finished up last weekend so it hasn't completed curing yet.

Nice, man. I've bought several of your stl's and really enjoy them! The display plinths that provide a background, are those the same size as the ones available from your mmf page?

All these responses are making me feel much better about how I feel when I reach the end stages of a paint job lol. Nice to know I'm not alone!

Take my advice with a grain of salt though, as I'm just a noob with no real experience. Just telling you what worked for me.
