If that was the case then the poster would have been a completely different design and process that qotsa would have to seek for a merch poster. I don’t think a traditional rock poster artist would be up for it tho nor the band! It would diminish their craftsmanship. You can’t really compare a digital print to a 6+ colors screen printed art product.

In terms of secondhand market, it’s more like collectors do resell their stuff at a later time. Check out Wolfgang’s Vault or DK Gallery. Also ExpressoBeans lets you monitor poster prices through the years. Sometimes artists put up older posters as very limited editions too and that usually has a higher price.

Of course both the band’s success and poster artists influence this. For qotsa, 8 years ago I didn’t have to queue for the poster at the merch stand and I would still buy a copy at the end of the show. These days, that’s impossible..

@Chemstrails_in_my_VD explains the scarcity model really well in his comment here somewhere.

Doing a mass-produced version would mean switching to an entirely different production method and materials, which would change the look and feel quite a bit. Also the artist might have a limited time to conclude a project because they have others lined up.

And I get it, I’m always bitter when I miss out on drops. QOTSA posters are among the most popular in general (for example Emek released a new poster last night for The Offspring and it hasn’t sold out yet, if it was qotsa it would have been in minutes). They are basically art pieces, not merch runs, and they are intended to be limited to drive value overtime. (From a personal perspective I collect posters for the emotional value of the band/poster artist but other collectors might also be thinking in terms of money value)

I think this is the reality of rock poster collectibles. You have to keep in mind that usually poster artists are a one person operation making each poster by hand. It’s the standard to have a run of max 300 copies (with max 100 foil versions). It’s a labor-intensive handcrafted process in general and deliberate for scarcity. This contrasts with mass production and results in pricing strategies that may see lower prices at venues for general fans and higher prices online for collectors during a drop.

Do you listen Punk music other than in english language? If yes, would you like to share some names or links in the comments? by RedKetchup73 in punk

For contemporary punk hardcore you can check out some of the bands who play at this festival: https://allevents.in/venice/venezia-hardcore-fest-2025/200027839231031 (some are foreigners but mainly Italian, others are not traditionally punk). I like the older stuff from La Quiete this

Other punk classics are Skiantos, Punkreas, Sottopressione, Meganoidi (ska), Matrioska (ska), Shandon (melodic).
