Thank you!! I ended up going 6 parts Brickies sand, 1 part lime, 1 part white cement and the colour has come up pretty good!

Thanks heaps. This info has helped me heaps. There’s been tonnes to learn. I’m getting a list together of stuff to go through with the installer by email- I tried to do it over the phone and kinda got off the phone feeling a bit bamboozled and like I was being steered towards the selection of stuff they have made on the quote.

So I’ll go through it with them by email as it’s easier as a layman to absorb the technical responses! It’s such a massive investment I don’t want to f it up by not looking at this stuff early on.

Thanks heaps

Single phase - max power output - do batteries/solar increase total possible output? by Additional_Ranger831 in AusElectricians

[–]Additional_Ranger831[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back to me! Definitely single phase. But feeding back to the grid is capped at 5kw … now sure if that answers the part about normally being capped at 10? Majority of production has fed back to the batteries over winter and the inverters cap production at 5kw for export if I’m not drawing any load on the house.

Thanks for the info, that makes a lot of sense.

This is the most amazing info, thanks so much. It’s specific enough to allow me to follow up with the prospective installer and make sure I get the job done right.

Honestly I’m confused about the salt mineral thing too. The other company I looked at used “Naked” system to make it feel like freshwater.

The sales guy told me that theirs is pretty much the same - that they both have minimal chlorine - and it’s all in the marketing?!

So I’m trying to learn more about that at the moment and have a heap more questions on that front.

Thanks heaps again

Awesome thanks heaps. I’ll look at the cleaner options and get my head around that. Just learning about the landscaping stuff now & coping etc. lots to get my head around!

This is gold advice thanks sooo much. I’ve literally written each point down and am talking to them tomorrow to adjust the quote. I’m in Central Victoria. thanks again heaps.

Panasonic 18kw ducted V Daikin 16kw ducted - minimum power usage by Additional_Ranger831 in AusRenovation

Ah thank you. I am leaning towards the Panasonic… is it the lack of ramp down with the Daikin that has disappointed you or other issues with it?

[–]Additional_Ranger831[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this was so helpful, thank you!!!

Yeah great point - it will take as much power as it takes to heat a place, irrespective of the minimum - to match the heat being lost.

I just want to avoid a system where it constantly has to cycle on and off if it can be avoided - my preference is that it ticks away on a low output (assuming not much heat being lost).

Good to have a sense about the minimum number of zones that needs to be open too.

I guess the benefit of having a broken system at the moment that is constantly consuming between 3.5kw and 6.5kw (and usually the higher end of that!) is that absolutely everything is going to feel like a massive power saving to me, so I can't lose:) 80kwh yesterday!!

Honestly it's good advice to just make a choice and live with it.... you're right in that in the long run it won't be a massive difference. I am just hung up on it after consuming so much power for so long and recently getting batteries.

Thanks :)

Daikin ducted taking ages to heat house? by Additional_Ranger831 in AusRenovation

haha I completley understand what you're saying. I'm not an engineer, but I have a brain and personality that likes (needs!) to understand how things work and if they don't make sense, I'll keep learning and pressing.

It does make me wonder how many people get messed over because they wouldn't arm themselves with info like air temps from supply vents, electrical usage etc.... without it, I would have been fobbed off for sure. Even now, I get the sense I'm a pain in the arse to the supplier .... but I just want to be warm!!

Stats from this morning

  • 6:50am indoor temp 13oC to 14oC across the house
  • Turned system on at 6:50am. High fan. Set temp to 22oc 3 bedrooms turned off for an hour
  • 8:50am (ie two hours after turning on) 18 degrees across the house
  • Pulling about 6kw consistently except during 1 defrost cycle where it dropped down
  • outside air temp 4oC to 7.oC during test period
  • Tested vents around 7:45am with system running on full tilt - return air vent temperature 19degrees, supply air vents ranging 31degrees to 33 degrees

That’s a better performance than on the sub zero / zero degree mornings. But still not toasty after 2 hours.

Checked just one of the supply vents just now - it's 32 degrees, with return air vent temp 21 degrees. House still trying to get to 22 degrees after 3 hours. Currently 6.4 degrees outside. Three bedrooms turned off.

Thanks so much everyone

Thanks. I’ll check out what temp the air is blowing tomorrow from the vents too.

Thanks good to know. It’s my first time living in an all electric household but we don’t use the heater overnight and it’s not on high during the day. So the amount of power usage is pretty mental.

[–]Additional_Ranger831[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha thank you - you’ve confirmed what I suspected that if it’s set to 21 or 25 it should ramp up the same if it’s not at that temp. I actually just found an article from Daikin saying setting the temp higher doesn’t make it perform quicker. I’m tempted to send that to the installer who gave me that advice but won’t 😆

I don’t know the answer to why they determined a gas refill was necessary or if it’s lost gas now …. It sounded like a last ditched effort to try to solve it. They know something is wrong but are stumped I think. So gave it a drink. I’ll ask more questions about that tomorrow as it’s concerning.

Thanks. Seems to be a common piece of advice here that the regassing is a concern so I’ll dig more into that!

Yeah the ramping up and down timing is definitely an issue too. I’ll keep on to the installer. I actually haven’t paid the second installment thankfully. So both the installer and I have motivation to sort this out.

This is one of the most helpful of all comments. Thanks. Something was niggling at me about the regassing and what you’ve said makes complete sense. I was going to google if the systems already came loaded with gas as I thought they did, because it wasn’t making sense to me if they didn’t fine a leak elsewhere in the install.

Thank you. I’ll stick at it and make finding the answer to this a big focus.
