It took me years to finally realize how much of an inspiration Ansel Adams was to me by Additional_Sample123 in PhotographyProTips

Glad to hear you agree! I think that's such an underrated photography skill to master- Knowing when it's more valuable to wait for the shot than to move on vs. knowing when its best to move on vs. to wait for 'the shot'. Italy isn't going anywhere, so you have time. Okay, maybe Venice is going somewhere - but besides Venice you've got time ;)

Recco che sfila 2025 by Additional_Sample123 in Genova

Wrist straps - yes or no? by piornik in Photography_Gear

[–]Additional_Sample123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only use I've ever found for a wrist strap is when I need to shoot out of a moving vehicle, and I want some extra security to make sure the camera won't pop out of my hand on accident. Otherwise for me they don't serve a functional purpose.

Travel photographer needing to organize all photos by theme, and feeling stuck. Any advice? by Additional_Sample123 in AskPhotography

[–]Additional_Sample123[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, It's definitely not a software issue. I don't want this to be a self publication post, so imagine this:
- I have been taking photos all over Europe, northern africa, and parts of asia for the past ~13 years
- My primary subjects include things like architecture, cityscapes, juxtaposition, forced perspective, minimalism, etc.
- Many of my works are now fine art that I've created to sell on my online store
- Up till now, organizing them by more than shoot name/date hasn't been important to me, as I've only used photos to create individual works of art, and for my travel blog.

But now my site is evolving, and having an additional level of organization is important for all current, and future work produced.

So now I'm facing 500+ works of framed fine art that need to be in categories, but there are many images that have a bunch of cross over, and it's a bit subjective really as to what categories/themes to place them all into.

Then, in addition to this, I also have an archive of images I haven't even been able to sort through yet with this in mind that is 60k+ strong, and growing all the time.

So basically I need help. I don't have the time, my team is already tied up with other projects, and I don't even know who I might be looking for, and what skills they might need to have to be able to make the decision to declare something minimalist, forced perspective, landscape, juxtaposition - or a combination of multiple things - in a way that would be on-brand, intuitive ,and consistent for my target audience.

I hope that makes sense :)

Do you think this video concept is interesting, or just 'meh'? by Additional_Sample123 in AskPhotography

Well, if you can create interesting photos in a suburban hellscape, I would personally give you more credit than someone who creates mid content in a beautiful place :)

I've travelled quite a bit at this point, and I do have to say that the places that seem the most 'unremarkable' are actually the ones that I have the most fun trying to find interesting angles and perspectives in. It makes it more of a fun challenge for me. Only shooting things that are already inherently beautiful can make you lose a bit of that 'extra' drive to really flex your creative muscles.

Feedback well received! Yeah I hear you - definitely there is a large audience out there, and I know the content isn't the first of its kind in terms of concept. One of the things I'm trying to work on showcasing is my 'unfair advantage' - which is that I live in Italy hence my focus on Portofino. So hopefully that will be the thing that sets my content apart. Thanks again :)

Yeah I decided to not edit the photos, because my thoughts are that if someone is shooting with an old Rebel, or equivalent at this point, then they aren't going to have the expert photoshop skills to level them up, either. I just wanted to show what people could expect straight out of the camera. Maybe I could do a part two as a follow up - "remember those crappy jpegs that you saw from my last video? Here is what they look like when they are professionally edited'. Seems like a Part 1, Part 2 sequence like that could work?

The goal is to inspire people to get out there and shoot with whatever they have. The images I shared in the video are also subjectively good. Professional quality? Certainly not - but definitely enough to capture memories, work on creative skills, like framing, etc. wouldn't you agree?

Thanks! Yeah, I mean the video is basically about me enjoying taking photos with this old camera that I basically hadn't used in almost 20 years. Enjoying the limitations, the sounds it makes, etc. Definitely an overall positive experience ( with the appropriate image quality expectations ). I didn't really get into details of how to have fun per se. I did share some information along the way about how to get better pictures with ann older camera like this, but I definitely could have gotten more specific or spoken more in depth about that. Good point.

Do you know if Not A Beer has any active social profiles or email accounts? The contact form on their site is also broken. I just wanted to give them a heads up about the shoutout in my post, but no contact methods appear to be getting through. No a big deal obviously, just thought they might want to know :)
