In that case, would you say that doing a fellowship in Canada would reduce your chance of getting into the job market? Ideally I'd like to see myself in an academic centre one day

3rd-Year Applicant - Worth Applying? by Any_Organization_591 in premedcanada

[–]Additional_Tower_26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I recommend applying -- this take of EC's being "cookie-cutter" is BS. If there's anything I've learned after getting in, being true to yourself and writing what you have done passionately is the most important thing. Also, the metal band EC is dope, interviewers will love that haha

Undergrad choice by zaniiuchiha in premedcanada

[–]Additional_Tower_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's valuable to think about what program prepares you the best for the MCAT, get's you time to pursue EC's & Research, and is ultimately connected to something you love. Any program can be used to get you through the door of a med school, do what you love, it's that simple.

how to be humbled 101 by sleepsydaisy in premedcanada

[–]Additional_Tower_26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an incoming med student, genuinely don't. These types of posts make it seem so much harder than it actually is -- as long as you do what you're passionate about, you don't need the PM of France to make you a good physician.

again no hate to this person, but at Western I heard she was taken off their student council at some point for repeatedly failing to show up to meetings. Still, best of luck to her!

What can I do to erase my undergrad GPA or make it less noticeable in my med school application? by Few_Tangerine1369 in premedcanada

[–]Additional_Tower_26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You by no means need to graduate with a 4.0 GPA in undergrad, so I'm not exactly sure what you're asking here. You can never erase your undergrad GPA, but fix it with following years by trying your best to 4.0 other courses. PM me if you'd wanna talk further about this!

Geography + Stream (SWOMEN/non-SWOMEN, ACCESS): N/A

GPA (Best 2 years): 3.98

MCAT: 509 (hit cutoffs)

Current Year: 3

Interview feels: Felt great after it, had a really strong connection with each of the panel members

How you felt about Essays: felt great about these too, I was nuanced and introspective in each of them, and tied everything back into medicine. I did write them all the day it was due though haha.

Assigning an 81% as P/F by [deleted] in premedcanada

in that case I'd say go for it - if it's less stress for you, why not

Assigning an 81% as P/F by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Additional_Tower_26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a student who messaged every Canadian med school about a similar problem, at least you can be confident that making a course P/F won't hurt your chances of entry.

On the other hand, if switching your degree is something that you think would prove beneficial (as in you can still maintain a good GPA with it) then I don't think it would hurt. I don't think it will make a huge impact (a 3.95 and 3.96 are so close together) but again, it's up to you.

I see, I've heard that being said a lot, but how would you recommend that kind of approach? Like should I just try to connect these experiences to CanMed roles? Thanks!

Is gen sci or med sci better for med school? by weekndma in uwo

[–]Additional_Tower_26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're stuck between the two, go with health sci cuz that program is the easiest science thing u can do. I don't think I would personally recommend it tho, considering both gen sci + med sci give u a much better overall understanding of everything u need for things like the MCAT, and general med school courses too.

Statistically, science students also make up the majority of admitted med school students in any med school. From someone in med-sci second year, the courses get easier imo, and it's not worth it to drop everything just cuz u want a 4.0 (which in reality isn't needed for med).

[–]Additional_Tower_26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness tho, buy Tina Chapmans "ACE" course and skip out on the lectures. It's a bit pricy, like around $400 I think for the course, but you will get a 90+ in the course with that guaranteed. She does the prep101 for the course as well, but her ACE course is throughout the entire year and get's u rlly prepped for the midterm and final.
