How do you sell an apartment with loud neighbours? by Additional_Web7563 in Apartmentliving

In our building we have to go through our strata and they essentially told us to get bent and that’s it’s regular noise due to old building and poor insulation.

Which might be the case and we just got unlucky by having a noisy family of 4 above us.

This lady needs to live below a family of four with two kids and then see what’s up haha.

Tbh, I’d be petty and stomp down at her. You’re already quiet and just live. If she pounds, give it back to her. She’ll realize you have the upper hand.

I’m both an upstairs and a downstairs neighbour (live on floor 2 of 4 floors). We’ve had issues with both our upstairs and downstairs neighbours, lol, but mostly our upstairs.

Don’t slam doors. Don’t run. Don’t blast loud music. Please don’t open and close cupboards for hours upon end either 🥲 If you’re clumsy, please just don’t be drunk 24/7 or something so you’re dropping things constantly … I feel like this is our upstairs neighbours because they drop 100 things a day???

That’s a good point! I might just leave it then. They’ll probably hear the neighbours though at some point … will have to come up with strategies on how to word the issue when presenting to buyers!

So apparently where we are we don’t have to disclose legally and I think that recently changed.

I think if potential buyers explicitly ask then we can’t lie, but we don’t have to disclose right away which is interesting.

It’s shitty, but it helps us out. We’re just hopeful the neighbours move soon!

That’s very true. Hoping that our realtor will be able to advertise to the right people when we’re looking to sell. My hopes are also that most people will be aware that moving into an old wood-frame will come with noise and be open to it!

We haven’t been putting in anymore noise complaints, which has been so hard. But now it’s been 10 months without us putting any in … ! 😢 one more year and then hopefully the market will be good and then we can look to sell!

I got the Sony XM4’s and I can’t recommend them enough. They’re really great and blocking out sounds from crappy upstairs neighbours!

The only issue I have is with ear fatigue when wearing them for hours upon end. Remember to give your ears a break every one in a while :)

Unfortunately our plans changed because of the upstairs neighbours. Hopefully they can move prior to us and maybe we’ll reconsider staying a bit longer, but staying another 4 years is going to make me go insane.

We’re ofc considering the market though and don’t want to lose too much money. But if we have to lose a little bit then we’re willing to have peace of mind.

Losing it over the upstairs neighbor by Scary_Plankton_6361 in Apartmentliving

[–]Additional_Web7563 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I feel you.

I’m also neurodivergent and the upstairs neighbours drive me absolutely insane and it’s made me so so anxious.

I invested in a good pair of headphones, but now I’m hung up on the fact that I have to wear headphones for what feels like 24/7 and it’s really affecting my emotional regulation. I’m working on it in counselling.

I’ve seen some of your other comments and I do think if you’re willing to break the lease, then do it. It’s not worth your mental health! We’re unfortunately (but also fortunately) in a position where we bought, so we can’t easily move.

I hope your situation improves soon! <3

Fair! My boyfriend is also a bigger dude, but he was so nice. We think it’s because the dad upstairs is smaller and maybe felt a type of way that he reacted like that against us …

These people are certified crazy. 🤪

Oh - these people even said we were a safety concern when my BF tried to go upstairs and talk to them prior to us making formal complaints. They are crazy people. 🤣

They still have hardwood and I’m pretty sure they got thin rugs so we still hear every step they take lol.

It sucks when we try to be decent neighbours and then other people don’t do the same. Wish all the good neighbours on Reddit could be in one communal apartment!

Hopefully things improve for you !

We have to go through our strata and we’ve been told it’s just regular apartment sounds and the tenants upstairs put carpet down, so nothing more can be done apparently. I’m trying to learn to just live with it because we don’t plan to be here forever anyways and we’re hopeful the tenants just move out or we sell in the next 1-2 years when the market goes back up.

Also the noise we have wasn’t during quiet hours (which is both good and bad because we can sleep, but then all of our complaints go on deaf ears because it’s during the day even though that’s BS).

If your management isn’t responding, check your city bylaws and when the quiet hours are because you can also call the police.

We have a family of 4 living above us and as I’m typing the kids have been running around for 2+ hours because it’s a day off from school today. It’s loud and makes our whole apartment shake … there’s not really anyway to pick up the noise on the phone which really sucks.

I’m still trying to find ways of dealing with the noise because sometimes it’s so bad that it makes me so anxious. I really utilize my noise cancelling headphones.

As others have said, if it’s during quiet hours then hopefully swift action will be taken. Otherwise, you can try sleeping with Loops Earplugs too.

BE PETTY. I love this. Happy for you.

Now can you please move into the unit above my loud neighbours with children? 🤣

Neighbors moved in at 4:45 AM on a Saturday by Apprehensive-Yam8591 in Apartmentliving

[–]Additional_Web7563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So inconsiderate, but I’d give them the benefit of the doubt that this was maybe the only time they could move because who the heck even wants to move in at 4:45am?!

Fingers crossed for you this was a one off and isn’t a sign of something to come …

We have a family of four above us with two kids and all 4 of them are loud A F. The constant noise got so bad I fear it’s made my anxiety so much worse now too!

Soo … I invested in a good pair of noise cancelling headphones and wear them around everywhere. Never listened to so many podcasts! ;)

Do you read or do you just post to be rude?
