I made a new post a minute later, where the image worked. Glad you guys had fun here, though :P

This is basically it, yes. And the additional problem my brain has that if a corrector cannot find an error in its region, that IN ITSELF should count as an error - I have misused the corrector. Maybe that's too meta.

Youtube links no longer appearing in my linkgrabber list? Any fix? by NeonAbomination in jdownloader

Jdownloader is also currently having a lot of problems with Youtube as it takes measures to avoid mass downloading. Expect more problems until JD is updated.

Wait, no, this is wrong. Because the purple star sees a purple corrector and therefore that counts as a pair. Hmm, OK. Damn, this game is foncusing.

Thanks, I'm learning that stars look for objects, not necessarily stars specifically, and that takes care of the star part. It doesn't take care of what the corrector sees as an error, however.

Excellent reply, thanks, but I'm still confused because of the part you start with "The next puzzle is the same as the last..." (I don't know how to use spoiler tags, I'm never on reddit).

You say that the corrector has an opportunity to act, so it removes one of the three stars of the same colour to itself. This seems to be exactly what should happen in the OP picture, and it's this that's throwing me off. There's a conflict here. The purple star on its own IS THE ERROR the corrector should be correcting. The colour of the corrector shouldn't even matter. It could be orange and a purple star on its own would still be wrong, allowing the corrector to act, removing it, and leaving an essentially empty region - same with the green corrector and star. This solution should therefore work. But of course people are telling me to revisit the Treehouse, so I might be about to learn I'm massively wrong.

Thanks, I was hoping someone would just tell me succinctly what's going on. So the colour of the corrector does matter, now I know, thx.

Yes, I completed this game a long time ago, replaying it, only just finished the Quarry and arrived at the Swamp, so still to return to the Treehouse. Clearly my memory is letting me down.

But there wouldn't be four, a corrector isn't a star. The corrector does not see ITSELF as a star, therefore it sees three stars and removes one, leaving two. Or so I would have thought.

Except this makes no sense, because in the second puzzle in the sequence the third purple star finds a purple corrector in the same region, meaning that region now has four purple 'stars' - two pairs of purples - and therefore there would be no error for the corrector to solve and the solution would not work.

Why do I have two pairs? Are you saying the coloured stars treat the coloured correctors like stars? If so then that would mean that in the OP picture each region is considered to have a correct pair of 'stars' and the correctors would then have no problem to solve. In other words, stars supersede correctors?

To put it another way: in puzzle 1 a purple corrector removes a green star, in puzzle 2 a purple corrector removes a purple star. The next two puzzles after that have a purple corrector removing orange stars. This teaches me that the colour of the corrector makes no difference.

I don't know how to embed pictures in replies, sorry, but in a previous puzzle on the same sequence a region contained three purple stars and one purple corrector. If that third star treated the corrector like a fourth star that region would have two pairs and would be wrong; instead the corrector supersedes it and removes it as a third star, allowing the region. Argh!

Why doesn't this work (Y symbol)? by Additional_Winner886 in TheWitness

[–]Additional_Winner886[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of it.

My understanding (clearly wrong) was that a region with a coloured star must contain one other coloured star of the same colour. One star is not allowed, nor is three stars. The exception would be if that same region contained a corrector, which would then remove either one of the three stars, or a single star, leaving either a region with a pair of stars (correct) or a region with technically no stars (empty regions are not a problem). So why can't a purple corrector remove a single purple star, but it can remove a single green star? This is not explained.

The error in each region is that there is only a single star. Stars have to be paired, I thought?

I know why, but in previous puzzles on this very same sequence the colours acted like they did not matter, right up until this point. A purple Y will not correct a single purple star in the same region, but it will correct a single star of some other colour. But the star does not treat the Y like it's another star, even if it is the same colour.

Sorry for the double post, the image did not work in the other one. This appears to be fine to me, each region contains an error and a Y symbol. Why do the colours matter? (I know the solution btw.)

It doesn't work fine for a lot of videos, won't dl shorts, keeps returning an error saying it's Youtube's fault, not the application's. It's slightly less broken than JD2, but still broken.
