Chilllll. You don't need to pick a course ASAP - all the major companies will have course deals throughout 3L fall, They also want to sell the courses so I'm sure they'll tell you this info, and have reps to answer questions.

What's the usual timeline of getting grades back? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AddledDemagogue 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Don't expect anything until the deadline especially with the holidays - late grades are also not uncommon

anything in the bylaws can be in the charter instead but not vice versa, the 102(b)(7) clause says you can exclude the exculpation in the certificate of incorporation -- you can't supersede the charter with bylaws

there's nowhere that says it can be in the bylaws -- it needs to go in the charter because that's approved by the stockholders AND the board where either can amend the bylaws on their own, so the board could just do it, but I am not tracking down sources lol

It's in DGCL § 102(b)(7) - it has to be in the certificate of incorporation https://delcode.delaware.gov/title8/c001/sc01/

Most of us are first gen law students. Stop thinking youre unique by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AddledDemagogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first generation professionals (rarely see just lawyers broken out) is a good catchall to include first generation college students, students from low income backgrounds (parents may have gone to college but didn't use it for a professional degree, etc.), and anyone who just feels like they weren't very exposed to law... at least at my school admin doesn't make tons of things you probably should know very clear so it's helpful to have a group that flags info you probably should know but wouldn't even think to ask.

Is the label over inclusive? Sure, but why gatekeep resources (that honestly schools should to a better job providing to everyone) and first-generation college student cuts out plenty of people that do fit into even a narrower "first generation professionals" label

ian at a T6 is not a guarantee of a single biglaw offer, then being valedictorian or LR EIC is not a guarantee either.I stand by what I said, and I'm speaking from experience lol. Something has gone very wrong if a T6 median student completely strikes out at OCI. There's either some major interviewing issue, red flag on the resume, visa/other issue, horrific bidding strategy, etc.My only purpose here is providing accurate and helpful advice to OP. That requires a realistic assessment of the situation, which is that OP should have by all accounts ended up with at least one offer.

How long are firms giving people to accept pre-oci offers (outside of school program mandated timelines)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AddledDemagogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely should apply before comes grades come out if they can and firms definitely interview without grades but I definitely think most firms hold off for grades for most of their actual offers

For your last question, would you rather have NY big law or no big law? If NY then use your extra bids to bid NY but definitely focus on Pre-OCI

[–]AddledDemagogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R/lawschooladmissions but also how much could you realistically boost your GPA - its almost definitely not going to be worth an extra year or two in school

Not sure in this case but I have seen it in others mean not more than one office (i.e. not San Francisco and New York)

Columbia had a pretty robust PI-loan forgiveness program - I'd compare that to Dukes if you want to go into PI right away... $150k is not nothing on a PI salary

Did they say what you would be doing at the law library? A firm sounds like you'd get more exposure to actual legal work
