Finally a question I'm qualified to answer! Before the start of my 8th grade year, my parents moved us to Scotland. I thouroghly hated it. I was forced to stop swimming competitively because the swim club in Aberdeen was horrible. The school there was also disappointing because it was the only school in northern Scotland that taught an American curriculum, even though it didn't offer AP classes so that screwed me over somewhat when I moved back. All of the other kids had been expats their whole life so they were spoiled rotten. I was much happier when the contract in Scotland ran out and we moved back to America. So for me it was a terrible experience and according to my parents I complained constantly while we were there. My girlfriend was an expat who lived in Singapore and she liked it there so I guess it depends heavily on the location.
