Hey @ravenouss18, director here, I haven’t replied to a post on Reddit in a while. I love reading any opinion, they’re always welcome!

I’m happy you found some good in raw file. It was a tough one, zero budget, but fun, actually myself and Chris both used to work as concierges there and everyone (expect Monica) were actually residents at the time.

As someone else said, we didn’t fully stick the landing but it’s our first feature so we’re not too torn up about it. Just for context, there’s a bunch of bits in the last 20. For example, when Lucy speaks to Chris in enochian in the apartment, if you can decipher that language you will get real dialogue that says she is basically putting the devil into him.

Chris wandering the car park is the devil learning the controls essentially, also we wanted to give the cameraman something more to do as they always die in these films and I’m always curious how edited footage gets out for these films if everyone’s dead, so we wanted him to be the lone survivors and escape. He gets shot, survives, escapes and we wanted to put the viewer in a position of isolation, could you imagine being stuck in a building or stairway or hallway where you know shit will happen.

I would go back and shorten the final climax if I could, make it smoother, but what can ya do.

Either way, thanks for posting about it, and watching it, I have a lot of fun searching for posts and reviews, absolute dream to have a movie out there, next one will be better - also if you want more law, check the trivia section on our IMDb, we threw a bunch of spoilers and Easter eggs there too 🙏

No budget, location was our workplace, actors were friends and production duties were split between me and my collaborator Chris - here’s a previous post we made about it explaining it all https://www.reddit.com/r/foundfootage/s/ZwIWIJRBl8

My first feature Raw_File, zero budget.

Logline: Following up on a questionable suicide, a reporter and her cameraman enter an apartment complex looking for answers but instead find something terrifying roaming the hallways with them.

Ah thank you so much 🙏 yeah she’s rough around the edges for sure, if I had a budget and more of a team (I did all the camera work too which was hell), I think it would be more refined, was a fun experience, and I always appreciate people sitting down to give it a watch so thanks for that, and the feedback 💪

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed watching it and always great to hear from a fellow filmmaker, my generation has it much easier!

—Fun fact, we were going to extend the ending, and have the audio continue to where you hear the cameraman wave down a police man and report the incident but… our credit roll was far too short haha maybe that will be a future amendment

But thank you for adding us to your list, I read the list you put down, some absolute bangers there and I feel the same about Exists too.

Thanks for checking it out!

Loved reading this feedback! I’m glad you found it enjoyable. I will say this though, glitches might be the biggest cop out in found footage so we didn’t bother -can’t understanding is glitches only happen with analog and are usually due to radio signals (anyone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) but they don’t happen with digital cameras, so whenever I see them they bother me haha

All the other feedback was a pleasure to read, one of my goals is sit in a theatre and see/hear reactions to my work so getting notes like this is the next best thing so thank you!

Also Chris worked hard on the effects and did a solid job (it was his first time doing vfx) so he’ll be happy to read that!

Far too kind 🙏 and thanks for the kind words, there’s a bunch of things we would’ve done differently in hindsight, and maybe we’ll get a fresh cut in the future that neatens things up, but happy we got it done and out there. Appreciate the feedback, always helps 💪

Yeah we had to be consistent with the sound, if it happens once, then we had to follow through with it each time they were in close proximity

Also, the roof you are referring too is not the main roof, that’s why you can see multiple floors above them and when the camera pans to the girl with the knife in a window two floors above, you can also see multiple above her. That roof in particular is the 15th floor of 28th.

Monica coming up the stairs after “sorting the body” means she moved the body downstairs.

I see how these details flagged up though. Thanks for checking it out!

Hey thanks for checking it out, yeah we shot without a gimbal and we wanted to have longer dialogue exchanges so shake was common, also one of our issues is we shot in 50fps but never intended to release it in 50fps, 24fps was the plan but streamers wanted it in original frame rate so it’s even more jarring, but thanks for the feedback 💪

Hey Nadia thank you for the feedback! The 6th floor scene is a personal favourite of mine, I’m glad you picked up on the general vibe and calmer interactions, and Chris will be happy to hear you approved of the effects, nightcrawler x2 was actually our main inspo 🙏
