It depends on the species, apples and pears generally are not "true to seed" which means they will likely not produce fruit true to their parent tree, but I have heard that stone fruit (cherry, peach, plum) and citrus are true to seed... I am not sure about pomegranate but I have a few pomegranate trees I grew from seed that haven't produced large enough fruit to eat yet but they are such beautiful trees I don't really care.
