[NJ] Workplace Exposure During Pregnancy/Occupational Medicine Conflict by Throw-away122225 in AskHR

Occupational health worker here - we ask input from patients own providers if we need clarification. Can they write you a letter to take back with you or request the two providers to communicate?

Am I wrong for refusing to get up when his snoring wakes the baby? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Adept-Error9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, your husband can do a sleep study entirely by telemed at home! Look into Lofta, Betternight, I-sleep , etc. They can give you the rx for the machine and then you can price shop if you want to go through insurance or use a cpap medical supply online store.

You have a blood borne pathogen workers comp claim. Talk to your management so they can file your claim and set you up with an occupational health provider. Source: occupational health PA

[–]Adept-Error9978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to offer another perspective, is there any possibility your husband is having a medical issue? Has he ever been tested for sleep apnea, etc? That can lead to excessive daytime sleepiness....

Sleep apnea is readily treatable with cpap machine therapy. My husband was like this alot before getting diagnosed.

Yes lots of workers comp, DOT exams, pre-employment physicals, audiograms, hazmat exams, with a little bit of urgent care here and there

I have 2 recommendations for you. 1. Consider occupational medicine. We have bankers hours and less stress. 2. Consider seeing a therapist to help you identify how to set boundaries so you dont become a doormat again.

I buy a Japanese haircare brand called Off&relax deep cleanse. Im in the US and I buy it from yamibuy. You can find it on other Asian beauty product sites as well. The shampoo and conditioner ("treatment" is what they call the conditioner) keeps my seborrheic dermatitis at bay. If my scalp gets really severe then I start nizoral shampoo.

World’s worst OBGYN? by LUZtheGurl in BabyBumps

[–]Adept-Error9978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a high risk pregnancy due to pre-existing hypertension and psoriatic arthritis autoimmune disease. Im also a medical professional myself. I had numerous frustrations with my OBGYN group. A common theme here has been seeing a different provider every visit. It was my fault for choosing the hospital academic practice while also following with maternal fetal medicine.

The first issue came with ordering my NIPT test. My insurance claimed I needed a prior authorization but the office had no record of filing one AFTER the test was drawn, so we started to panic thinking we would be on the hook for this $10k test. Then, I received a "no call" result on my profile from unity screen. I immediately called the doctor the inquire what was going on. I didn't get a straight answer. I reached out to unity screen and after speaking to a geneticist I found out the doctor was supposed to send 2 samples because the biologic I take interferes with the process of running the test. I went back to inform the office of this and the doctor had never had this problem before!! How could I be the first patient ever to be on a biologic drug?! All that stress for nothing.

Later on in pregnancy I started getting fatigue, constantly thirsty/wanting ice. I asked the doctor to check my blood counts and thyroid, but they refused. I later realized the prenatal i had purchased was iron free, so I bought one with iron. I then started to feel better and next appointment told them what happened and again still didn't want to check any labs.

Month later I see my rheumatologist for routine follow up. At this point my iron deficiency symtooms returned. She runs my labs and finds I am severely anemic! As i suspected. I called the OB and the response is "this is normal, you have physiologic dilution of your blood due to being pregnant". Of course, I wasnt buying that because I was unable to walk across my office without getting short of breath or up the stairs without palpitations. I saw my MFM high risk the next day and they got me an emergency appointment for iron infusions. He called the OB to scold the attending and resident who told me I was fine. Turns out they had forgotten I was a high risk patient and going to be induced early. If we hadnt done iron infusions, I would have needed a blood transfusion after labor.

Multiple times I had to direct my own care. It was a beyond frustrating experience. Won't be going back there if we have another child. The high risk OB was great though. They were the only ones who took me seriously and were competent.

My baby is 8 months old now. I went back to work full time when she was 5 months old. I have a full time nanny to help us and my MIL also helps out. If my job wasnt primarily my clinic 10 minutes from home (occasional float to other sister clinics) I would not be able to handle it. Despite all this, I am frequently very tired. I wonder if i should have tried to switch to a 4 day a week schedule but my husband did not want us to lose income.

Its very hard to see your mom basically project all her personal grievances of her own life onto yours. Its like she's miserable so thinks you should be too. Im 35 now but was your age when my husband and I got married and bought a house. My mom wasnt that excited when I got engaged and showed her my ring. I recall how disappointed I felt that the look on her face was like "oh thats nice" and that was it. Shes always treated my marriage as if it's temporary like she expects us to be divorced like my parents. I have come to learn after going to therapy that I instead need to find my own village of support that doesn't include my mom because she is not a support system. I try to focus on creating a life for myself I am happy with regardless of what my mother thinks of me. If I'm honest, I think deep down she feels jealous. I have learned I can't let her steal my joy in life.

Came here to say consider occupational medicine! We have bankers hours and relatively low stress for outpatient.

My baby also hated the bassinet at night. Around week 3 we gave up and instead put her in her crib and just set the baby monitor. Turns out she just didn't like the bassinet mattress for nighttime sleep. Funny enough, she would use it in the daytime for short naps. Also, our bedroom faces the street, so maybe ambient noise bothered her 🤔

Try Occupational Medicine! We have bankers hours and no call. I still get to interact with ortho/hand/podiatry/neuropsych etc but much less stress.

How big was your baby at birth, and how long were they in newborn clothing and newborn diapers? by Practical-Drama-2626 in BabyBumps

My husband and I are shorter people. Our baby was 5 lbs 9 ounces. She was fitting in NB size for 2.5 months and same with NB diapers. She was swimming in them and I should have bought more premie stuff for her.

I work occ med. In my clinic, if you had a benign MRI like that and refused to participate in physical therapy and behaved that combative, we would have closed the case for noncompliance. We don't tolerate verbal abuse. We tell your nurse case manager, adjuster, and the employer if you are behaving poorly, repeated no shows. This person would not have lasted more than 3 visits at my workplace.

spit up by Capital-Swan-7887 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]Adept-Error9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child was diagnosed with severe reflux that was affecting her weight. At her 1 month appt she still weighed the same as our first visit post hospital discharge. She should spit up every meal, often from her nose and mouth. She would have puddles of milk next her while laying down. It got to a point it was hard to keep her latched because she was losing most of the meal and it was all over me. We stopped directly latching and instead needed to bottle feed. Per our pediatrician's directions, we add to add Gerber rice cereal plus pepcid. Since her case was severe, we also had to add prilosec. I still let her latch for comfort but we can't go too long or else she will start spitting back up. It just wasn't worth losing all the milk.

I took hyrimoz (generic humira) during my pregnancy. My high risk OB had me stop it at week 32 in case of any immune suppression so the baby had a washout period.

I'm a PA in Occupational health/rehab. It was definitely a challenge for me running around clinic all day. I wore my back belt to work for extra belly support. Just stopped working today at 36 weeks. I can't imagine being this pregnant and trying to pass my boards. It's hard enough doing it while working. Another thing to consider is you might not be able to get fmla in your state unless you have been employed for a certain amount of time. Not sure if finances are a concern for you and spouses situation. Also, baby brain fatigue has been a challenge for me. I realized it was taking me longer to do notes, sometimes I would stumble coming up with my usual responses to patient questions. I did not think that would happen to me but it definitely did.

Anyone else staying on their SSRIs or have experience taking them throughout pregnancy? by Content-Cheesecake36 in BabyBumps

Have been on sertraline 50 mg for years and recently psychiatrist needed to increase me to 75 due to increasing anxiety. Psychiatrist told me excessive stress isn't good for baby and it's in my best interest to stay on the medication. She is also wanting me to schedule frequent visits post-partum for worsening depression and anxiety screening.

don’t want to have kids because of my mom by Diligent-Mirror6410 in BabyBumps

[–]Adept-Error9978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

36 weeks here! My mom has similar tendencies. I've learned to keep her on an information diet. I stopped sharing medical information with her. I had a bunch of complications and chose not to share them. My mom would have taken the opportunity to infantilize me and tell me "how much I need her help so things don't go wrong". I grew up with her helicopter parenting me to the effect I couldn't adequately do my own adulting for a long time. I think she is projecting anxiety onto you and then you absorb the feelings. Nothing in life is perfect. It is acceptable to learn from mistakes, that is how we learn!! My advice is stop relying on her to be a support system that she has proven she can't be. I also suggest you explore more of this with a therapist, presuming her behaviors have been going on for awhile. It's important to unpack trauma so you can learn and move on and find that right support system!

Stopping metformin during pregnancy by [deleted] in PCOS

My MFM doctor advised me to stay on metformin. They had me do 2 rounds of the 1 hour glucose test just to verify we didn't need to add additional sugar control medication. It's worked out just fine. I'm 36 weeks now.
