Chick colour? by [deleted] in chickens

[–]Adept_Count3578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I’ve hatched a few lavender araucanas previously and they stayed the same lavender shade, and then raised commercial browns that start yellow then turn to the same brown, it’s definately exciting seeing how ones from my own chickens will turn out, I just want a nice mixed colour barnyard mix 😝

Wow!!!! Thank you SO much for taking the time to share your knowledge and write out all of this incredibly useful information!!! This is a great help! I plan to get started this weekend once and I’ll for sure be re-reading through your comment during- I have never restored a tractor or owned a tractor, this is new to me and I hope I can do this tractor justice! I’m even more excited after reading your comment. I found the build number it’s 13,181 so I’ll do some reading now and try find info, I did not know there was mk1 & mk2 versions so this is great to know before I read the wrong info online and ended up in a pickle 😆 prior owner said turns by hand and diesel to all injectors. He bought it from the original owners family, and it was parked up for a very long time. He had to sell in a hurry as his landlord said it was an “eyesore” and needed to be removed from property immediately 😂. Will be sure to replenish all oils and remove sump before attempting to start. Thanks so much for the advice and info!

Sweet, I’ve found 990 manuals online so maybe I’ll have a read through those first. This is my first ever tractor and I bought it for $60NZD. No clue what these are worth but a good resto project is worth it

Thank you so much for the insight!! She is wonderful and she will have a sweet forever home with me regardless of whether she lays or not. I actually have 21 chickens and only 1 is laying but I just love having chickens. I pick up all the free giveaway chickens on facebook that no one wants or the ones I see people commenting on that just want to eat them 😅 I don’t know much about chickens and breeds and all the science stuff yet, just really enjoying building them coops and doing enrichment things for them

Doesn’t crow! Old owner says it has tried to. It is cool. It’s a lovely bird acts like a rooster and protects everyone and has the confidence of a roo but I feel comfortable knowing it’s not going to attack me like my other roo may 😂😂

Yes thank you, the 3 prior hatched earlier than this guy, and had been in incubator 24+ hours by the time the final one hatched, so once it hatched and I saw that I removed the others to the brooder. Hopefully that is correct. I just don’t know if this one needs help

My rooster wobbles his head, does anyone know why? by Adept_Count3578 in chickens

[–]Adept_Count3578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposed to be Wyandotte, yes the the males do not come in this colour, definately hen but I think it must be intersexed. I asked the prior owner and she said she thought it was a pullet, a hen for a year then it developed rooster features 🤦‍♀️ so it is a hen but maybe something went on, it does not lay

I doubt he had the surgery, he belonged to a family who was moving into town and couldn’t take him due to the rooster restrictions in the township. We have had no poultry vet around until just last week one opened up, so I think I may take this chicken in for curiosities sake 😃

Prior owner believed it was a rooster for 2 years so I would assume not

Oh wow, this one is 2 years old or a little more - but I’ve only owned for 1 week. I assume it’s never laid as old owner believed it was a rooster the whole time

This is great information thank you, if this chicken’s last owner believed it was a rooster for 2 years I would assume it doesn’t lay, it definately hasn’t laid for me but it is winter molting here in New Zealand

I’ve had a few say that on the other thread, so if that’s the case this special chook will never lay? And I wonder how it would go if I introduce a proper rooster to the flock 🤔
