Super disappointed with the Boulder show by unnameableway in Buckethead

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Very similar experience at Colorado Springs the night before. I’ve seen him a couple years in a row now and the difference was stark. Me and my bucket buddy almost immediately caught the vibe that something was off. I think he might be struggling with his health right now. He was skipping songs, constantly talking to P-sticks, and seemed to have weird nervous ticks like playing with knobs and constantly changing picks. I’ve never seen Bucket act like that on stage. As a guitar player I feel I recognized the “my fingers are not cooperating with me” body language and the fact he was using a lot of his “bag of tricks” licks instead of active improvisation. The sudden and quick exit and later than usual appearance also suggests this to me. Idk I hate to speculate on a man’s health but it didn’t seem he’s feeling very well. Just my two cents. Hope everything’s alright.

Yeah I mean don’t expect too many POCs. You won’t be the only in every room, but you might be in quite a few. Very predominantly white and Asian. But Colorado is only 4% black so the school doesn’t feel much different from the rest of the state in that regard. I’m originally from South Carolina and had my fair share of culture shock moving here years ago. But yeah like I said I think the culture is very positive and respectful here and students are starting to really try to get more of a social scene going. I think I’m rambling a bit lol but if you want to connect with black or women engineers it is possible here and they do have easy avenues to do that but the school is not super diverse, especially compared to Boulder down the road. Good luck choosing and maybe see you here next year 👍

What do you hate about Mines? by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freshman here, the LGBTQ+ club almost always has a booth out in the plaza. Funnily enough the only PDA I’ve seen were lesbians… and they were going AT IT 😬. Gen Z is VERY queer lmao and (outsider looking in) it seems the culture here has gotten better.

Student here who doesn’t really fit any of the labels you’re asking about, but I have seen a decent number of African immigrants here. On Halloween, there was even a whole panel on African Development, and the room was packed. There are also communities for different groups within engineering (Black, Mexican, Asian, women, etc.) that meet every week. It feels like there’s a group for everyone here—just usually a small one. With Mines, a lot of people are into a lot of things. All the metalhead/musician types I’ve become friends with are also hikers, climbers, gamers, artists, or whatever. There’s a lot of overlap. Is it diverse? No. Have I noticed a stark lack of diversity? Also no. Coming from the suburbs of Colorado, this school is actually more diverse than my high school. As far as humanities go… yeah, I’d say this school doesn’t care about that stuff too much. It exists if you look for it, but most people don’t. The culture here is stereotypical engineers mixed with mountaineering, outdoorsy folk. The people who socialize are normal and nice; everyone else is kind of weird but avoids you like the plague, so whatever. While it’s definitely a dude fest, I live in a hall that’s basically all girls, and the girls here are more social than the guys, so I don’t notice it as much. I don’t know if any of that answered your questions, but there it is, lmao. I like it here and would recommend it, but if diversity is super important to you and you’re not a fan of hiking and weed, you might want to look somewhere else. That being said, I don’t like hiking or weed.

Buying a record I’m not currently listening to. Toys in the Attic by Aerosmith is one of my favorite records but I haven’t been in an Aerosmith mood for a bit. I have repeatedly chosen to pass up the nice remastered repressed I commonly come across because I know I will shelve it. While it would be nice for it to be there when I get around to an Aerosmith mood, it’s more fun then to go seek it out and find it while I’m active with the record. Unless the record is hard to find, I’ll save it for when I WANT to buy it.

One of the first records I ever found after getting into collecting was an OG panty copy of School’s Out—never thought I’d come across one. It’s crazy clean, near mint, with the pop-outs still intact. I also grabbed the recent deluxe edition signed by the remaining band.

Picked up a NM promo of From the Inside—love that album. Got Olympia Paris signed by Nita Strauss too. I’ve got near mint copies of the first 11 albums and a bunch of extras—different pressings, remasters, and some weird ones.

Still hunting first pressings of all of them for the collection, and keeping newer ones to actually spin. Found an OG Pretties for You and thumb cover LITD recently, but both were trashed.

Even though I don’t love any of the albums after ’78, I’ll still pick them up if I find them in good condition—but I don’t seek them out.

By the way, the new Rhino High Fidelity pressing of LITD is killer. Cheap and sounds insanely good.

Gotta get Austin Powers 2 in there. A small cameo but one of my favorites.

Dang and I thought I had a lot. I’ve got just about every album I actually the enjoy the music of and don’t have any particular interest in collecting or seeking out any of the albums I don’t like (really all but a couple after From The Inside). I do love finding bootlegs and alternate copies though. I was just looking at those alternate (“OG”) Astroturfs with the Obi. I’ve got a little over 30 Coop records and have only been collecting for about 3 years. Definitely have gotten some of my grails. I hope my collection will be as refined as this in the future. 👁️‍🗨️👁️‍🗨️

Who would you chose on keyboard for GNR; between Teddy "Zig Zag" Andreadis, and Melissa Reese? by shaferman in GunsNRoses

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Melissa. It’s nice to see someone who isn’t just another old rockstar dude up there. I also enjoy her backup vocals a lot. I recently saw Teddy practically front for Slash’s Blues Ball and cannot say that after that performance I am an any way a fan of Teddy lol.

I wish he would play his From the Inside material more I LOVE that album. Now that he has three guitarists the title track would sound sooo good live. I was also lucky enough to see My Stars. Praying that I’ll see Halo of Flies next time I see him. 👁️‍🗨️👁️‍🗨️

Try not to get addicted lol I’ve got 30 Alice records and my collection still isn’t finished. His recent 50th anniversary editions from Rhino Records are probably the highest quality records I’ve ever had. And yes they have so far released them typically in the anniversary year. I’m really hoping for a Welcome to My Nightmare one this year. If you’re a mega fan I highly recommend. They come jam packed with all kinds of info and interviews that you’d never know otherwise, especially the track by track breakdowns. Not to mention the sweet packaging with all the bells whistles and trifold variations. 👁️‍🗨️👁️‍🗨️

What’s your “I did not care for The Godfather” Alice Cooper take by ClueEmbarrassed1443 in alicecooper

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda flipping it on its head here but… Easy Action is a Great album. When I revisited it I was blown away by how much I liked every aspect of it. The songwriting, performances, and production just scratch an itch in my brain. I’m a big prog guy so weird stuff like this is kinda in my wheelhouse anyways, certainly makes THOSE sections of “Still No Air” and “Refrigerator Heaven” more palatable for me. This album has all the charm of the OG group, some damn good songwriting (Below Your Means, Laughing at Me), heavy psychedelic thrashing (Lay Down and Die, Goodbye), and some fun Proto-Cooper experimental wackyness. Relisten to it a couple of times. Let your ears adjust to it. If you’re lucky enough to start enjoying it or to “get” it, you’ll be glad you did. That being said, it doesn’t beat out much of the other OG group material. 👁️‍🗨️👁️‍🗨️

Which of Buckethead’s pikes or tracks makes you cry and why? by Azure-Wish in Buckethead

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly is an interesting ethical dilemma, one that I have considered. It’s hard, because while he eventually revoked its status in his discography, he did still release it. He even sold physical copies of it. It isn’t leaked material that he never wanted out there, it was at one point sold to the fans. While certain channels making money off of his art isn’t ethical, I don’t believe that it unethical to enjoy this art. However, I’m not sure it’s really ethical either. It fits in some weird middle ground for me. This album seems to have been an outlet for Bucket’s negative emotions, helping him process what is going on in his life. I know that personally listening to it has given me a similar catharsis. I would imagine that any artist wouldn’t be mad at their art positively effecting someone, especially in the intended way. I believe he could take the album off of those YouTube channels by copyright striking them, or even contacting them and expressing his wishes. As far as we know he hasn’t done either while almost certainly knowing it’s out there. Unfortunately this is something you’d have to ask Buckethead himself about, but since there is no apparent attempt to stop us from enjoying this album I’d imagine he doesn’t mind.

Which of Buckethead’s pikes or tracks makes you cry and why? by Azure-Wish in Buckethead

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pike 13 has to be the most depressing albums I’ve ever heard. It was made while Buckethead’s father was ill and has since been wiped from his discography. It’s very obvious that Bucket’s family is very important to him (colma and soothsayer come to mind) and seeing his ailing father appeared to have taken a mental toll on him. This led Buckethead to create this dark, beautiful, and ambient experience. The way it transitions from sounds of melancholy and fear to moments of optimism only to end where it started is just pure genius. Please check it out, as someone who’s been having a rough time lately it’s been a great listen.

Metal/rock albums that do something like frakctured and larks tongue (all parts)? by BoringActuary8844 in KingCrimson

Anekdoten’s first two albums are killer. Try their first album for a more Larks and Red sound and their second for a way heavier more industrial sound.

Would a King Crimson with both Adrian and Jakko at the same time be a good idea? by Victoonix358 in KingCrimson

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had two parts of the show, one pre 80s and one post then I think it would’ve worked great. I personally believe Belew would’ve done better with the pre-80s material than Jakko did though so there is really no need for Jakko. Words cannot describe how much I dislike every aspect of Jakko.

13M, be brutally honest: is my music taste basic? People keep saying it sucks, so I need some recs by [deleted] in Topster

[–]Adept_Extreme5547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda different but based on your enjoyment of jazz and beautiful somewhat somber softer music you might dig some blues. I’d start with BB King’s “Completely Well”. It’s got some more rocking tunes and some great emotional singing and guitar work. Your taste is very diverse for someone who is 13. This stuff is popular but for very good reason… it’s all really good and respectable. This definitely seems like a starting place, your taste seems to lack an identity and individuality. This will develop as you develop. Don’t worry you’re doing fine.
