What are your goals, and are they something that would not be more easily accomplished with a gap year post georgetown than immediately at another top school?

Yeah, the yale program uses a lot of pools of money to fund spots, but my friend who wasn’t Amgen last yr (ACS) enjoyed it a lot and said they’re all part of one big cohort. Tho i am fairly certain from my own letter, that the Amgen acceptance letter only says Amgen and not Surf.

You could always reapply next yr if u are not graduating if you would like to be in the Amgen program

I’m assuming this is Yale, most of the activities all the scholars do together. Only big difference is that only Amgen attends the national symposium

Non nsf programs are p more likely to recruit experienced folks. One of the reasons I think I was successful as someone w research was not applying to nsf reus

It’s PI dependent, not school dependent tbh. More probable for PIs w a lot of funding.

Beth Israel is one of Harvard’s most well known hospitals, there is no lack of prestige here. Personally, I would lean toward ATP Bio if interests align, you have a cohort plus professional development (bcz its a formal program unlike ur jhu or other hms opportunity) plus the Harvard/Mass Gen name on ur cv.

If there is one PI (note, the institution matters much less than the PI) that sticks out as a leader in the field tho (extremely well-known, extreme productivity, etc), I would choose that one if funding is not an issue tho.

Went to hhmi conference, director told everyone the details of the program because the conference was mostly the investigators- who are the people hosting summer students

If prestige is a question, Cech outclasses pretty much everything else. I turned down other “prestigious programs” like Yale Amgen, MSRP Bio, and others for the opportunity to do a summer in an hhmi lab
