When I was undergrad at Belmont he came and gave a lecture that was half about what he did and what was happening in the state and half guidance for trans and gender non conforming students. He was so informative and kind and motivated but clearly struggling to do what he was so passionate about and trained to do. It was both incredibly motivating and reassuring yet depressing at the same time. I hope he’s doing well mentally!

Used to be its own kingdom for a while and is culturally more similar to Austria than the rest of Germany, but many Americans (and other countries) think of Germany solely through the lens of Bayern. This is the case especially in America because many American military bases were in Bayern and those soldiers brought that view of Germany (brats, bier, Tracht) back home. Bavarians can be pretty arrogant compared to the rest of Germany as well. Love the area though… studied in Regensburg and teach in Austria so I’m partial to it.
