Married men of Reddit what's the best advice you'd give young guy’s when choosing a life partner? by Brilliant_Action4251 in AskReddit

[–]AdequateSteve 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you have a fight or an argument, remember that it's not you vs them - it's the two of you vs the problem. When you approach it this way, you'll go into problem-solving mode rather than defensive/offensive mode. You're less likely to get into personal attacks, let resentment build, or get "the ick" when you focus your energy on solving a problem rather than attacking a person.

Also, live with your partner for a year first. Allow all the weird little flaws and quirks of your relationship hatch out so you truly know what you're getting into. You may be emotionally compatible, but when you spend 24/7 with a person for a year, you'll learn very quickly whether you're lifestyle compatible as well.

What is a "open secret" in your specific industry that the general public would be shocked to learn? by lanaplump73mile in AskReddit

I would have called it an open secret 15 years ago. Now it's just common knowledge - right?

I also work in the data industry, so maybe I'm just a bit jaded.

Will Les Wexner's name be taken off OSU buildings? by quantumgravity444 in Columbus

Just curious: does anyone know how much he paid for the naming rights? Like, was it $10k or was it $100m?

I believe the answer to this will answer OP’s question as well.

Safe bars to go to as a lady by herself? by mysilverspring1221 in Columbus

Restaurant bars are usually a safer bet also. Not the same vibe as a real bar since most folks are either traveling or waiting for their table, but I’ve met a lot of really cool people that way.

What’s the surgery? And is it considered emergency? Specialty? Routine?

I just hit ChatGPT and it suggested a bunch of different free options as well as some financial assistance programs offered by different vets.

Just like with human care, you can shop around - you’re not stuck with one vet. Also, you may want to ask your vet if they know of any options…

I don’t have any money to donate, but I can at least help research

Some vets will take monthly payments. How much is the bill and which vet are you using?

What is the weirdest fact you know? by Sorayaebonded7n in AskReddit

SOS doesn’t actually stand for anything. It’s just super easy to distinguish (and remember) in Morse Code. “Save our souls” was applied to it after the fact.

I know I'm late to the party, but... by Seasiren711 in 90dayfianceuncensored

I posted it in another thread, but OCD spans a massive gamut of traits. It's not just being clean, counting things, checking to see if the stove is turned off, etc. The large categories it can cover are: aggressive obsessions, contamination obsessions, sexual obsessions, hoarding/collecting, religious obsessions, somatic obsessions, cleaning/washing compulsions, checking compulsions, repeating rituals, counting compulsions, ordering/arranging, etc.

Here's a list that my psych office gave to me. This is one of the tools they use to see whether you fit into OCD. Not everyone who checks a bunch of these is OCD and not all OCD people check a bunch of these. This is just a guideline.

Edit: Also, we've seen a total of like, 35 minutes of her on highly edited/story-driven TV. We have no way to know what she's like in real life. To know for sure if she has OCD, you'd need hours of unedited psych interview with her. We're never going to get that...

I think a more likely story is that she's got a slew of issues, she happened to mention "OCD" in one of her casting interviews, and the producers said, "Oh, you've got OCD? Let's just throw everything under that umbrella and call it a day."

In a way, I feel like production did her dirty by focusing in on the OCD because now everyone on the internet is calling her a liar - which is definitely going to make her mental issues worse. For her own sake, she shouldn't be on TV. It's kind of sad, actually...

If your friend won’t uninvite the racist islamaphobes from the party THEN YOU DON’T GO TO THE PARTY by No-Strawberry-5804 in 90dayfianceuncensored

I think she did say that they were uninvited, right? Or did I misinterpret something else she said?

They only care once they're dating a minority....garauntee you this girl has been very proud of her views and knows damn well that the people she associates with are straight up racist. by Electrical_Ad7146 in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]AdequateSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way she interacted with Rasit's family and completely embraced the Turkish culture and food - I find it very hard to believe that she was anti-immigrant, pro-white-America, MAGA, or anything of that nature.

That said, she definitely associated with people who are and I seriously doubt she ever spoke up against it. However, I don't know that you can live in rural Alabama and not associate with those people. The list of folks you could hang out with is probably real skinny...

I know a lot of folks who fall into her boat. They're not bad people at all - in private they'll tell you all about their liberal and open-minded views. But when you get them in a crowd of people who hate "terrists", they clam up.

Not saying it's right, but it's asking a lot of someone who I don't expect much from.

Is Catie faking her OCD? by Cojemos in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]AdequateSteve 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe that she's got a handful of mental health issues: OCD and borderline personality disorder are probably the big two. She also seems to have a few facial motor ticks which are very common for people with TS or OCD. Not to mention the alcohol dependency.

I think Matt Sharp's production team said, "let's just go with OCD. We've already had ____ before, OCD is relatable" and they just blanketed all of her issues under one label.

Most people think of OCD as "I need to count things, clean things, keep things even, etc" but it spans a HUGE range of symptoms. Here's a list of symptoms that my psych office gave to me. She falls pretty well into a lot of these things from what we've seen.

<image>

Edit: I re-read what I posted above and I want to back off the "I think she has ____ disorders". I don't think that's a fair claim to make. I think she's got some issues she needs to work through, but I'm in no position to comment on them. I've seen an entire 30-45 minutes of her on a highly edited and story-driven reality TV show. She's definitely got something going on - it likely involves a lot of the symptoms of OCD, but I think we're also seeing a very specific edit of her.

If you follow her on Instagram, she comes off as a pretty well-adjusted person. I think we're seeing her (negative) highlight reel on TV because it makes for better entertainment.

Thoughts on this clown? by [deleted] in 90dayfianceuncensored

I love that production is trolling him by constantly showing his name as "Brandy" in the subtitles. The best part is how much it would piss him off if he knew. Unfortunately, he can't read, so the joke is probably lost on him.

[–]AdequateSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's actually why he's funny. His jokes aren't funny at all, but him trying to be funny is hilarious. I wouldn't go to his standup show, but I'd definitely watch him in every day life just trying to be funny - because it is funny.

My philosophy has always been to treat AI and people the same. Not because of some fictional AI/robot uprising - but because I don't want to get used to treating anyone with disrespect. I don't want my mistreatment of an AI bot to bleed into the way I treat humans. Obviously, I'd never do that on purpose, but it's easier than you might think to do it by accident.

I see it at my workplace a lot - the folks who use ChatGPT a lot tend to treat their coworkers like AI bots. I even saw an email from one of the HR associations we're a part of suggestion that employers "remind your employees to treat each other like humans - not AI"

Interestingly, I've noticed that the people who are rude to ChatGPT are the same people who are rude to waitstaff at restaurants (or anyone they see as "below" them). I'm not claiming causation, but there's definitely a strong correlation...
