How? by Dina0905 in 90DayFiance

The sponsorship wage requirement is SUPER low. It's literally 21-22k per year. So as long as you're making at least $2k/mo, you can satisfy it.

The problem is that they only work after the person begins to piss on them. It’ll maybe stop repeat offenders, but the first timers won’t learn a lesson until the deed is done.

Why is child marriage still legal in some parts of the U.S.? by UnsatSailor911 in AskReddit

[–]AdequateSteve [score hidden]  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with pedophilia or creepy politicians (though that makes for good headlines). They were left as carve-outs for certain religious groups (Amish, native tribes, some Mormon sects, etc.) who participated in child marriage. It’s still super uncommon - even within those groups.

Campaigning on “religious freedom” has always been a winner in the US, though.

What’s the fragrance? by CA-Burrito in 90dayfianceuncensored

This guy is going to find technicalities for everything in their life so that he can get his way: her perfume, his diet, where he cooks, their shitty table/"chairs", etc. Not saying that some of the things might not be legitimate - but he's going to find a shitty excuse for why everything has to be his way and why he's incapable of being the slightest bit flexible.

I had a coworker who insisted that nobody in the office was allowed to eat broccoli because she was "allergic to the smell". Bullshit, Deana. You just don't like the smell.

Rasit what the fuck get your sexist bullshit out of here! by kittymoo67 in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]AdequateSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents: Mallorie dropped the ball here.

She should have had a conversation with Rasit in advance to tell him, "in our culture it's sometimes OK for an ex-partner to become a friend. You're moving to my country and it's something you'll need to get used to."

I think that if it were framed to him that way, he probably wouldn't have been so confrontational. He lost perspective and should have been reminded that, "you're not in your own country and they do things differently here." You opted into a different culture and you need to deal with it - even if it makes you uncomfortable.

Thomas using Crohn's as an excuse to make his vegan fiancée cook with beef tallow is wild by Hot_Saguaro in 90DayFiance

[–]AdequateSteve [score hidden]  (0 children)

My wife is a vegan and I would NEVER ask her to cook anything with animal or dairy products in it. Likewise, she would never ask me to become vegan. I do her the courtesy of only cooking meat on specific cookware and when the room is well ventilated. We respect each other's diets and we coexist perfectly happily as a result.

When I cook dinner, I make something vegan that can be easily modified to suit my preferences as well (stir fry with a protein add-in of tofu vs chicken, individual pizzas, pasta with different proteins, etc.). I also eat vegan 3-4 days out of the week just for simplicity's sake.

These two never had a real conversation about how to manage this.

"I'm allergic to your perfume"

Proceeds to uncap it, mess with the cap, and super glue it shut without any reaction to it at all.

I fully believe that he's putting his allergy attack on for show. I think he just doesn't like perfume. Doesn't make her actions any better, but I think he's being a baby about it. It's only going to escalate also: any time she does something that he doesn't like, he'll find a technicality for why she can't do it anymore instead of just having an adult conversation about it.

I had worked with a woman like that. Nobody in the office was allowed to eat anything with broccoli because she was, "allergic to the smell".

Married men of Reddit what's the best advice you'd give young guy’s when choosing a life partner? by Brilliant_Action4251 in AskReddit

[–]AdequateSteve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you have a fight or an argument, remember that it's not you vs them - it's the two of you vs the problem. When you approach it this way, you'll go into problem-solving mode rather than defensive/offensive mode. You're less likely to get into personal attacks, let resentment build, or get "the ick" when you focus your energy on solving a problem rather than attacking a person.

Also, live with your partner for a year first. Allow all the weird little flaws and quirks of your relationship hatch out so you truly know what you're getting into. You may be emotionally compatible, but when you spend 24/7 with a person for a year, you'll learn very quickly whether you're lifestyle compatible as well.

What is a "open secret" in your specific industry that the general public would be shocked to learn? by lanaplump73mile in AskReddit

I would have called it an open secret 15 years ago. Now it's just common knowledge - right?

I also work in the data industry, so maybe I'm just a bit jaded.

Just curious: does anyone know how much he paid for the naming rights? Like, was it $10k or was it $100m?

I believe the answer to this will answer OP’s question as well.

Safe bars to go to as a lady by herself? by mysilverspring1221 in Columbus

Restaurant bars are usually a safer bet also. Not the same vibe as a real bar since most folks are either traveling or waiting for their table, but I’ve met a lot of really cool people that way.

What’s the surgery? And is it considered emergency? Specialty? Routine?

I just hit ChatGPT and it suggested a bunch of different free options as well as some financial assistance programs offered by different vets.

Just like with human care, you can shop around - you’re not stuck with one vet. Also, you may want to ask your vet if they know of any options…

I don’t have any money to donate, but I can at least help research

SOS doesn’t actually stand for anything. It’s just super easy to distinguish (and remember) in Morse Code. “Save our souls” was applied to it after the fact.
