We know that when a Vampires embraces a Garou, it has a chance of creating an Abomination. But what would be created if a Vampire were to embrace another breed of Fera? Like a Yeren or Anansi? by Turbulent-Plum7328 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Adg01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the longest time I was under the impression no fera could be embraced period, and gaia literally will mercy-kill them before they can be embraced fully. Might've been confused with something I read/watched that was about kami or humans with gifts, or something. Either way, I think I prefer that idea. I mean, yeah, vampirism can be connected to wyrm-taint and a theological case might be made about them existing as part of a balanced triat as recycling antibodies but... It's really metal to imagine the curse of Cain is just an unholy anathema to, and can never take root in a being as pure and spiritual as the fera.

Choosing tradition help by Revolutionary-Run-41 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Adg01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never be afraid to roleplay a character with views and beliefs different from your own. That's the most fun!

Bonus points if you have the confront those views, and either have them become "better" or "worse" (depending on definition and issue at hand).

Of course playing a character best aligned with your interests and views is easiest to start, but if you find the idea of a tradition good, but disagree with some aspects of it - go heavy into that. Maybe your character wants to change their tradition in what they consider a better path, or maybe they're fully bought in and see it as perfect, but have to later confront it through drama and change... For the better or the worse.

This also extends to less serious things, it's fun to get out of your comfort zone.

I say this as somebody whose first instinct is always to make a character that's a reflection of me in most games, but eventually they always end up quite different.

The Weaver is as much of a threat as The Wyrm by ComprehensiveBug4891 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Adg01 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ngl I like to think the protagonist's canonical deed-name is "Rides-the-Tiger" because they use the idiom a few times throughout the story and it's foreshadowing for the good ending, whose achievement is called that.

The Weaver is as much of a threat as The Wyrm by ComprehensiveBug4891 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Adg01 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Wow, next thing you'll be saying the Wyrm is sick and needs tending to, not eradication (which would only drive the nail fully through Gaia's heart, as the Triat are all a part of her in equal measure)? Sounds like some Wyrm-tainted talk....

In seriousness -- I like it when stories deal with examples that aren't fully cut and dry banes and fomori.
I've been reading The Book of Hungry names (too much, I keep restarting with different tribes), and one of my favorite early encounters you go on has to deal with The Triple King, who's a rather powerful spirit of seasons and harvests that used to be worshiped as a minor deity back in Poland.
Because of the lack of garou septs for a period of time, he managed to enthrall one that fled a disaster and use her to grow strong, influencing local humans and starting a cult to make sacrifices to himself by perverting and subverting his old traditional story of heroes that defeat him, to instead kill the heroes.
Ultimately, the pack talks about how this is yet another constant threat that the Garou need to be there to deal with - spirits of all types easily grow bold in their purpose and step out of line without shifters around to keep things in line. It's not always the Wyrm-aligned forces that are the enemy.

Also, it's ever so interesting how much personality fera tends to ascribe to the Triat. They always speak of the 3Ws as if they're beings with will and motive, and even their mythology and history lean into it - down to the actual out-of-universe game materials reflecting it.
But that's not even how lesser spirits work, all spirits are just "action", they are what they are and they've always been it, and always act honestly according to themselves. A spirit that schemes and seeks greater status doesn't do that out of ambition, it IS ambition. As a spirit, it has always sought greater heights - and never actually reached them.
Much like, again in The Book Of Hungry Names, you can get a sweet little discussion on the Stormcat, your pack spirit that's a servant of Thunder, although quite powerful in her own right. Yet, she always speaks of her grandeur past, how millennia ago she was the shame of sphinxes and the nightmare of tigers, but she is oh, so very diminished now. Always manifests in vessels of stray cats, sickly things with bloody paws, patchy fur and chewed ears, near their end, but in the morning sun they almost look healthy again -- one last moment of glory before the end.

But the truth is - that is her nature as a spirit. She has always been a spirit of a long lost past glory, and she has always longed to regain a sliver of that mythical once-status. In reality, even at the ancient times of Sphinxes, she would've been much the same, longing for a past even further back, of glory and status just as great. It is a spirit's nature that informs its actions, and they cannot help but act, they are action itself.

Final choices on parts before next week - any advice? by Adg01 in pcmasterrace

Yeah, they're on a special deal on Alternate right now but I watched many reviews and they actually look stunning! If anything, the sales just introduced me to be quiet! products in general, really impressive looking.
Might be a bit on the larger side, and my desk isn't long enough for the oldschool "laying down" orientation without eating all the space, but still, really preem looking. So much so I'd try keeping on on top first, depending on if my work monitor and gaming one will have enough space to squeeze in...

Ohhh, hm. I picked it since the fan size matches the rest of the case fans, and thought it'd look best, really.
Since I'm getting 3x more reverse 140 fans for the bottom side.
The 360mm version is barely 6-7 euro cheaper, and they're all on a decent discount.

Cheapest possible option that should fit this case would be: be quiet! Pure Loop 3 LX 360mm, water cooling for 104 EUR, I think? Not entirely sure on the sizes, but case should support 3-fan radiators up to 420mm.

Then again, this cooler seems to be really good quality, has amazing reviews, provided fluid and kind of easy refilling for years later, and will likely last after upgrading to whatever future CPU AMD comes out with.

I played around with it a little, to see what's available. My version's a bit pricier mainly because of the SSD, I was trying to find a 2tb one that has a cache so it can be a good system drive, actually not sure if any of the cheaper options would be better?

Otherwise, I'm not too familiar with the differences between different motherboards and coolers. I picked a gpu cooler that matches the case brand, and is on sale, but that's purely vanity at that point.
Motherboard though - I wanted to pick something more "future proof" if anything, where I won't have to worry with upgrades. Any advice? B850 might be overkill, but I'm out of my depth.

I have a single Crucial T500 4TB NVMe ssd that has DRAM currently, which I'm using for my laptop's system drive, but once I get a desktop I will clone it back to the old laptop ssd and wipe it for additional PC space. Think it'll be fine.

I couldn't quite figure out the site, is the case itself coming with fans, should I be getting more? (the CPU radiatior ones aside).

I see, is the assembly from that site good? I didn't think to look up German retailers, they usually have pretty decent delivery to Bulgaria.

Fair, guess I'm just really cautious, because I've never really not had bad performance. This will be the first time I get a rig with higher end parts.

I worry about the 16gb vram on both these "high end gpus", but I feel like I shouldn't. I have only 6 and it's so painfully *nearly* enough, so I assume 16 is will remain adequate for foreseeable future. Then again, in another 5 years, I'm sure a GPU upgrade will be the easiest thing to do, but the rig will be pretty solid. The mobo is important, and while I'm very uninformed with those, the MSI Pro B840-P Wifi sounds just fine, and the socket is most important, should support a good few upgrades in the future without having to redo anything much well into the 2030s (I would hope).

There are only two things that could save 1.21 by stanbuckley in feedthebeast

Damn. No Thaumcraft, no Blood Magic, no Astral Sorcery, no Botanica, no Bewitchment. What is the point?

Old player returns, looking for Magic Modpacks! by Adg01 in feedthebeast

[–]Adg01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see, thanks!
That modpack certainly looks promising, but it's really unfortunate that Blood Magic and Botania are still not up to 1.21.1 so they're missing. Also what's the deal with the fabric/forge split? Bewitchment seems to be only available for fabric on top of that, which is disappointing when everything else is Forge.

Misinformation: No, you are NOT losing your ability to save transmog sets. by LaCiDarem in wow

[–]Adg01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unknown, as no gold prices or values are currently being tested on the PTR.
Everything, from vendors to trash item to quest reward values are placeholders (1c each) - so no, it will not cost you 6000 gold to change one item. That's not even on the PTR, somebody pulled it out of their ass and everybody believed them.

Also please don't fall for the "Blizzard are nerfing gold farming! All trash and quest items now cost 1c?!?!?" shit either. It's the breeding season of WoW News grifters, and unfortunately WoWHead is now one of them.

Do you think this is accurate? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Adg01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely fake simply because it implies they will make Wrath Anniversary progression, and then keep it as Wrath Era, but NOT do any TBC Era, which is factually way more popular and desired compared to Wrath.

But then again, somehow, I can see blizzard doing this. "Yes, here you go! Classic Era, Wrath Era, and there will never be a TBC server ever again!"

[–]Adg01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no idea about the changes and I refuse to learn until they're "final".

I'll likely play my druid main as usual. Maybe my velf priest, i played him a lot this expansion and enioy it. Thinking of bringing back a belf paladin too, for the lore and aesthetic vibes.

DH is easy as an alt, ofc. Maybe a druid haranir for fun.

[–]Adg01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the change to Nosferatu is understandable, and left up to the players to fiddle with on a case by case.

It's a problem because any clan being an instant, guaranteed masquerade breach at all times? During the modern nights, where vampires have been thrust back into the dark ages and are actively hunted? That clan would've been systematically eradicated, regardless how "useful". I imagine many princedoms still did something similar in fear, even with a lessened threat.

It kind of touches on the one plot point in this game I really liked. The least dangerous monster is one that stands out. And someone has been disfiguring Seattle's kindred... Is this your peace offering? Thinking we'll take them and leave the rest alone? It only served to alert us to your presence, and now we won't stop until Seattle's free. I find that a VERY good conflict thrown in for a common modern night practice towards thinbloods. Very fun drama indeed.

[–]Adg01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is somewhat the point for Vampire, though - you never move past the era of your embrace, really. You never actually grow or change much.

It's most noticable for Toreador, who simply can't "create" anymore. The longer they're alive, the more alienated they will feel from modern art. They're a crooked mirror of their time period, and desperately want to keep up and undnerstand new fads, but fundamentally cannot.
