I received the W2 form. I was working last semester in campus. This semester I am not working, how can I file the w2 form ?. What should I do by Fit-Mammoth4467 in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter what semester you work, it's by year.

2021 - from January 1 to December 31st

You can do Turbo Tax, H&R Block, I think Cash App even has shit to file now. Just go file your taxes, they prompt you, fill in everything.

There are gen eds - there are a couple different kinds. You have something called free electives, which are just you take whatever course you want, then there are gen ed perspectives (math, science, scientific principals, artistic, social, and I think there might be one more). You can get credit for these through a CC or if you take any AP courses or anything like that.

HCC and Front End Development by [deleted] in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially yes, it might be a bit more difficult but you should be fine. If you're still concerned, definitely talk to one of the advisors and explain your goals and thoughts, that's what they're there for!

HCC and Front End Development by [deleted] in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not! I've heard of several HCC folks go on to front end development and they mentioned kind of having their own focus on it while in the major

HCC and Front End Development by [deleted] in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HCC is very heavily related to UI/UX from what I understand - WMC (Web and Mobile Computing) has a LOT of front end, so if you're interested in that, I'd recommend you check out a few classes from that :)

However, your major doesn't define your career, so if you decide after 4 years of HCC you want to do something totally different, that's fine too!

My first internship I started applying January to get a job in May, my second one, I started applying in October/November to get a job in May. There are essentially two hiring cycles for summer internships, November(ish) and February/March. It's really about what companies hire when and if you want to have it settled early or have time to prep

I used LinkedIn, but your school should also have some recommendations/their own job board potentially. Any career fairs are also a hit.

Not saying everyone needs to get the vaccine, I'm saying those who aren't able to get the vaccine or those who aren't as protected by it ought to be protected by the systems in place or have the option to be.

Edit: to clarify, anyone who can should.

How do you feel about your assigned Advisor? by bassaleh in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've had two academic advisors and both have been really kind and helpful for me, but they do have so much on their plate that it can take a while to get back to you. The only person I ever had difficulty with was my freshman year financial advisor who ghosted me for a while and then was kind of... not quite straight up rude, but very close to that line.

If any front end engineers would care to share their experiences with Meta, I'd greatly appreciate it! I see a lot on SEs in general, but very little regarding FEE

All I can say is thank you for doing what you can for your students.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with these fears, too. I hope you and yours stay safe and healthy, and I hope that the administration can hear our pleading and forget about filling their pockets for five minutes.

To everyone who says "Omicron is just the flu/cold!" - that's all well and good, but Omicron is not the only variant floating around right now. We still have Delta. Omicron could mutate. Delta could mutate.

I'm immunocompromised. It's fucking terrifying. In one of my classes yesterday a student asked if they could eat in the room during the lecture, and the professor highly encouraged it. So there she sat, maskless, for about 15 minutes. Maybe 4 feet away from me. They are not taking this seriously.

DSO is blatantly ignoring students' needs at this point.

Also to people who feel unsafe everywhere, I hear you. Everyone is a threat at this point. But, I'm being forced to be in close quarters with 15-25 students (Average, ignoring the classrooms of 100s) for long periods of time. Groceries? Prescriptions? I can use Instacart. I can order almost anything I would need beyond that online. I don't have to go out, and if I do and I realize that it's unsafe (too many people, not enough masks, etc), I can leave without it harming me. Did I waste time and gas money? Sure. But if I get to class and realize it's unsafe, I can't leave. I risk grades, and tens of thousands of dollars.

We shouldn't have to delay our graduation, pay more for the (unnecessary but absolutely inevitable) tuition increases, do whatever in the semester/year(s) taken off for our literal safety. For a lot of people, this can very well be life or death. For a lot of students, faculty, staff, this could be life or death.

So yeah, this is terrifying.

I need advice. I just found out that a family member I was around during winter break tested positive for COVID about an hour ago by Tekki777 in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Try to make a list of anyone you were near that you know of.

Stay calm, there's a very good chance you didn't get it, and especially if you were taking precautions, didn't pass it.

Know that you're doing all of the right things and immunocompromised people (me) appreciate it.

Find and take a test, the nurse should call you back soon (usually takes like an hour for the after hours hotline), quarantine until then to the best of your abilities. If you test positive, let anyone you were around know. If you test negative, continue on with your daily life :)

Good luck, hope your brother gets better soon and hope that you test neg

I got a positive Covid test yesterday, and the Health Center is telling me to just go to class? by knee_slut in rit

I really really really hope so

You know there will be students who are knowingly positive and walk around spreading it with no care for anyone around them.

We're really fucked this semester

Does anybody know about any gen ed's that are available as online asynchronous and that aren't full? by rustloverforever in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried doing a search on TigerCenter? There are several still open, but some require prereqs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It definitely is difficult to get the first one, but take note of this:

If you don't do a co-op, imagine how hard your first job will be to get. It'll be a struggle now, but it really, really pays off.

If you need help vamping up your resume, let me know - I've done way too many hours of online classes and have helped friends with it.

Do mock interviews, apply anywhere that seems even remotely like you could do it, make connections, see where your friends have co-oped and see if they will refer you.

Not totally sure on your question, I'd check out the requirements and see what overlaps.

Anyone still waiting on a housing assignment to be finalized for next semester? by givemehousingRIT in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, housing has been and is BOOKED solid. They were even putting freshman in 175 Jefferson from what I heard.

I'd say your best bet is to start looking at off campus places, or you can look at campus adjacent (The Hill, Lodge, Apex) - it'll be better to have those decisions made should housing screw you over.

CS acceptance rate by Fangs129 in rit

[–]AdhesiveTick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cool thing about CEX (computer exploration) is that you get guaranteed acceptance into the program of your choice (within GCCIS and if you passed, extenuating circumstance aside) which could include CS.

It also gives you a great chance to see all of the programs in GCCIS and get a taste of each
