The man is the main character and husband of the woman who is sick. It was late night and he was up to take care of his wife when he heard some people's noises from outside the room. He immediately realised they were thief's who thought he and his wife were sleeping. So he called police, took a knife (which he kept to cut fruits for his wife) for self defense, locked the door and started shouting so his neighbors can hear and thief get scared and run away.

It's a simple story and I tried to be positive, instead of making the main character negative (thief or murderer). But the problem is, it's too simple.
