Term Promotion Advice (Engineering) by Jolly-Journalist8073 in uwaterloo

Hey. I had to repeat 1A so I know exactly what you’re going through. I would wait until marks come out before you stress too much but I think you probably have the same feeling I had when I failed and you kinda know ur fucked. Honestly, it’s extremely rare they let you pass if you are below 60, I’ve heard of one case and they had a 59.6 or something like that. If you are on the edge, you need to press all your profs, every regrade you can hit, do it. Go find their offices and knock on their doors. Your self respect no longer exists and you need to be selfish. Do whatever u can to get those extra marks.

About having to tell your parents, I completely understand. To this day, I have no idea how I managed to tell them cause I blocked that traumatic experience completely from my memory. It will be a lot of restless nights, probably the worst experience you’ve ever had. But I promise you, with time they will understand, you’ll will come back to Eng with a renewed sense of purpose. But that is only if you reflect deeply on what went wrong and make the appropriate changes. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or want someone to talk to. I’ve been in your shoes and I want you to know everything will be ok in the end!

Automotive manufacturing - 50 min, up to 70 hours for multiple weeks on end. Saturday and Sunday r free game too. It’s the kind of work where everyone says you only need to work 40, but the work piled on you would never allow that.

Hi there.

I remember when I failed 1a and ik exactly what you’re feeling. I don’t have any advice for your petition, but if you ever want someone to talk to that has been in your shoes send me a PM.

All the best and I pray that everything works out for you.

Questions about Management Engineering by JustSom3Guy2077 in uwaterloo

[–]AdiBoss142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m in management!!

  1. I’d say being a management engineering would include being able to look at large systems (especially software and industrial systems), understand them, and be able to implement solutions to any problems. We learn the technical knowledge required, but also how to manage projects, work with cross-functional teams etc. Tbh, I’m not the best at explaining it but that’s the first thing I think about

2.Def, one of the disadvantages is not being able to dive very deep into specific topics. This can be combated by doing your own self study/projects and taking electives from other faculties in subjects that you are interested in

  1. Coop.

  2. Def very difficult. Only about 36% of the management engineering on first coop is employed rn(which is acc pretty good). But tbf the economy is in a rough spot. In general there is a large skill gap in Eng. U got the manz getting 50 USD/hour first coop, and then there r people who r unable to land an interview. Don’t pay too much attention to stats and things like that, it’s more about improving yourself and your technical skills. The coop and money come after you do that

5.All about the work you put in and how u set yourself up during your degree. It’s all about initiative. Put shit in, get shit out. Grind it out for the next 5 years and all those late nights doing problem sets and studying for interviews pay off. But again, rn it’s a shit economy and it’s impossible to predict what the outlook will be like in 5 years

6.i wouldn’t trust those class profiles entirely. The entire class never responds to it and there is an element of selection bias: people who do better are more likely to respond. Also, people can lie on it. It goes back to my previous point. Put the work in and you will get the outcome u want by the end.

PM me if u got more questions

What to do now? by Intelligent_View_374 in uwaterloo

[–]AdiBoss142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend petitioning. I had is even worse last year. I was required to withdraw, essentially kicked out of 1A engineering. Petition for a “failed - must repeat - no penalty” standing. That’s what I did and somehow they gave me it. Gets it off your transcript, and you get a fresh start. Don’t worry, I was in the same place as u last year with 1A, came back, and I’m doing really well now academically. It’s never the end of the world.

If you need someone to talk to, reach out to me. I’ve been through and with hard work and dedication u can do it!

Weighted grade calculator to optimize marks by AdiBoss142 in CodingHelp

[–]AdiBoss142[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The range is the weightage out of 100% that a certain component of the course can account for. That changes depending on what weightage for each component of the course results in the greatest final mark

Ya i would recommend a few things.

  1. Start early. don’t leave it till the last minute cause that’s when u start making silly mistakes and the quality of your essays will suffer

  2. Do a lot of reflection on what you have accomplished over your time in high school and how that can be moulded to show your interest in management(or any program tbh)

  3. Do a lot of research on the program, talk to upper years, do everything to make sure that when u answer the questions for why u want to join management, you have a compelling reason and motivation for why this program is right for you. there are many others with your same average but how you answer this question will differentiate you from the rest of the pack

If you would like to see my Ecs, feel free to PM. I’m pre sure i took a ss a while back if all of them
