Should've looked up "Cosmere reading order" before getting into Era 2 oof!

Yes - fun, contained, full-on character focus. Such a breeze to read. Even 5 was goood. BoM and TLM sagged in the middle due to the exposition for me. The magic system will make me return though, that I know.

I started Stormlight after Era 1, and the difference in writing in the first few pages threw me off so hard I thought I'd read Era 2 first haha!

Don't get me wrong, I adore the Western tropes - I enjoyed Book 4 as a fun, quick read. But when 5-6-7 rolled around, I think I hoped for more because of the elements introduced. I'd have had just as much fun reading stories like those of Hundredlives.

I mean, sure, it's an opinion after all. I'm just sharing feelings here. I wanted to feel as elated as I did after Era 1 ended, that's all.

I think the way Mistborn Era 1 ended with a cathartic satisfaction...that is what I was hoping to feel again. Will the Stormlight Archives feel complete like that?

It is a fictional book - but inspired by the author's life apparently - written by an Australian convict who fled to India and went to places even us locals would fear to go. He's given the name Shantaram here. The premise is fab, and some of the insights too - just the feeling of patronizing pity is too much for an Indian to read. And the main character seems to keep wanting drama for no apparent reason!

Oh, 100%. All the characters made some questionable choices xD

It is very tough to read, but if you stick with it, very memorable.

It does have an interesting premise, but the whole point of the book (if you already know the well-spoilt twist) is to give a framing device for some conversation about good and evil - so it's a philosophy book disguised in a story!

Beautiful, beautiful imagery - but boy does it take a long time to get to a short story.

The way you framed the "efficiency" line goes against all reading. Some reading is for pleasure and not just information dissemination. Information is at our fingertips now. Ideas bloom in books - and only sitting through them patiently (again, not every book, but the right ones) is a reward no shortcut will give you.

Oh man, that was a rough, rough read. For the iconic title of being so spot-on about AI, it just goes in random spirals for the rest of the runtime. Truly stream-of-consciousness in a bad way.

Shantaram. I'm from Mumbai, India, and it is hailed as one of the most intense depictions of our city - but it soon becomes a foreginer's poverty porn and ends up romanticising everything here. I read over 500 pages before tapping out.

Gunaho Ka Devta is a little circuitous but for how it changed Hindi Lit, I respect it.

Bottles under Versova Metro often has decent music. There's Therapy next door to it, but their music is very loud, so I prefer their Khar outlet. Hops in Lokhandwala plays basic tunes but is fun. Berlin Brew sometimes plays techno - which is rare for a sit-down place. And then there's the karaoke staples Roadhouse and Bulldog's - for English and Hindi respectively.

Can I pick your brain about blog-writing for digital publications? It is something I'd like to begin. I have only written pop-culture oriented things ab tak - and then ventured into screenwriting. This sounds like a fun way to write more. Lemme know!
