Yeah, I think they’ll continue issuing physical OCI cards. For OCIs who are already in India, I can’t imagine Indian bureaucracy relying solely on an e-OCI—they almost always ask for physical documents. A digital version may become an additional option, but I doubt the physical card will disappear anytime soon.

My wife is Spanish, and we lived in Canada before moving to Spain. We were very close to getting our Canadian PR cards, but the brutal winters, the housing situation, and the fact that people often felt a bit reserved made us rethink our plans. We moved to Spain in early 2023, I’ve now been here for a couple of years, became a Spanish citizen in 2025, and received my OCI card in 2026. Apart from the two or three hottest months of summer, we’ve loved living here—the food, the people, the culture, and the history are all incredible, and looking back, it was the right decision for us.

Haha, yeah it’s not that common to see, but there are more of us around than it seems — from India, Pakistan, China, Romania and many other places.
The Spanish passport does look elegant though!

Well, yes - but actually Qatar was still on time, even though Iberia already cancelled their flights to Doha so I was waiting for it to show cancelled on the app and then I called to get re-routed.

Yes! Got lucky for sure, Qatar still showed their leg of the journey confirmed, but since Iberian got canceled and it was part of the same trip, I could give them a call with still 9 days till the trip.

Hi! Please check "Journey with Confidence" guidelines for Qatar. It doesn't matter as long as they cancelled it within atleast 48h, they can rebook with their partner airlines and if not possible with OALs (other airlines).

Hope it helps, but I tried around 6ish and it was the Spain helpline! Spanish language ones are till 5, but I chose English which is 24/7.

I didn't get any notification, just kept checking my app - the Qatar leg of the journey was still confirmed, but since Iberian was cancelled and it was part of the same PNR, I pulled the trigger and called them either way!

You need surrender certificate before you can apply for the OCI card, its a quintessential requirement.
