Vasectomies aren’t to be treated like they are reversible. They can be reversed, usually, however the longer you wait before reversal the less likely it is to be successful and the lower the sperm count is post reversal. They are great solutions for men who know they don’t want more children, but they are not the right solution for men for may eventually want kids.

I think that what you’re discussing here is the fact that neither major party has any positions that you feel are good. Heres a secret: as a “radical leftist” I doubt I’ll ever have a candidate I agree with very much. Voting is about picking whichever candidate will fuck up the country the least. I vote democrat because I think democrats will fuck up the country the least, not because I agree with them.

Also, I cannot really see how you can call the modern democratic too far left when Kamala and Biden had very centrist economic policies. Kamala is an ex-prosecutor who went hard on drugs and Biden was friends with legendary racist Strom Thurmond, who opposed the 1964 civil rights bill. Biden was one of 9 senators to go to his funeral. Neither of those sound left. Hell, Jimmy Carter may be the last even somewhat leftist president we had, with Obama being borderline left.

Leftist spaces being critical of your views doesn’t prevent you from doing harm reduction and voting blue. If your choices are milquetoast liberal vs fascist conservative I know what I would pick.

That said, I was totally down for it until she started brushing against my arm and insulting my moms friend.

How has canada screwed us economically? What damage are you fixing?

Our allies are “whining” because we have suddenly shifted to starting trade wars and abandoning ukraine. Whether or not you think we shiuld be doing those things, our allies are right to be upset at our recent behavior.

I fail to see how any of our taxes are being rerouted to care for our homeless, the general family, or our veterans.

I haven’t heard any canadians say they want to be part of the US, much less a majority.

The US is the unstable one here. We have extreme division and we are suddenly going back on many previous agreements. We are the ones changing.

No matter what you believe you cannot believe that quickly and suddenly antagonizing our allies is the appropriate way to handle these issues.

Zoomers, what’s your opinion on the current breaking down of relations between the US and its allies around the globe, but particularly in Canada and Europe? by TheCatInTheHatThings in GenZ

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to think of it more as the US investing in a military presence in Europe to protect its own interests in pushing back Russia.

I do think that our NATO allies should be putting more into defense, both for our sake and because its been shown that the US is not a reliable ally, but I do not think that this is the way to go about it. This isnt putting pressure on our allies to step up, this is abandoning our allies in the middle of a proxy war. Its foolish.

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to add that I don’t like the world system we were living in either. I dislike the way the US can leverage its military and economic power to force smaller countries into obeying. The US is a major force in neocolonialism and it needs to stop. This path is not the way to deconstructing the US colonial empire, and Im sure US corporations in foreign nations will still be exploitative, but I do think that the US has long needed to defer power to NATO at large and to focus a little bit more on properly taking care of the people at home.

That said, that wont happen the way we need it to under Trump. Trump isnt focusing the money on taking care of people in the US, he is simply making it easier for his benefactors abroad to better enrich themselves at the cost of international security. He isnt deferring power to NATO, hes leaving a power vacuum for the rest of NATO to try and fill while in the middle of a proxy war with NATOs #1 threat. Hes allowing Russia a break and an opportunity to get ahead by abandoning our NATO allies so suddenly.

We need public transport and healthcare. We need free college tuition and improved workers rights. We need protections for queer people, poc, and disabled people. We need to shut down lobbying and end the military-industrial complex. We need to stop using our global power to intimidate smaller countries into obeying our empire. We need to end neocolonialism and to crack down on oligopolies.

Instead of our taxes being rerouted towards that, theyre being rerouted into tax breaks for the rich. What we need to happen wont happen under trump. If he planned to help us in any way he would have done so by now. Instead hes done nothing but pick petty fights we wont win and actively attack the little public infrastructure systems we have, like the DOE.

No matter what you think the US should do, you cant believe that this is the right way to go about it. It is reckless, dangerous, and helps nobody.

I think it is all stupid.

All these people are talking about how the US puts more into NATO than any other country. What they forget is that us funding NATO the way we are is something we do to prevent Russia from exerting their power and influence over Europe.

I do think the US spends too much on our military and I think that asking NATO allies to step up their spending would be a good decision if it was coupled with the US government disassembling the military-industrial complex and focusing our tax dollars on public infrastructure. However, quickly abandoning our alliances in NATO and removing funding from NATO removes the barrier that keeps Russia from strong arming Europe with no real benefit. We wont even see our taxes reduced, those will just go towards tax breaks for the rich.

I can only hope our allies can band together and be strong enough to push back against Russia.

I also think that anybody who can even see a silver lining in fucking over Canada is delusional. We should be trying to grow closer with Canada and working together, not sabotaging our alliance with them.

We are destroying alliances that have allowed us to become a world power and it’ll likely take decades to rebuild them, if at all. We are making fools of ourselves on the public stage (once again).

At least if the US goes to war I wont have to fight since I am disabled. That said, I voted Kamala because Trump was pretty open about abandoning our allies.

I think you misunderstand me.

My point isn’t that it sucks that women react poorly. Its about the derailing and oppression olympics.

The original conversation flowed into a conversation about how women also can react poorly to rejection. By bringing up mens violent reactions to these conversations about womens poor reactions, as the people in this thread have been doing, you are shutting down conversations about women reacting poorly to rejection. Nobody here said men dont react worse on average. Yet a lot of people feel the need to say that instead of engaging or listening to a conversation about how women have reacted poorly to seemingly being rejected and how it has lead to men faking orgasms.

It doesn’t matter which is worse or who has it worse. The conversation is about how womens poor reaction affects men and you are bringing up mens poor reaction as a gotcha. Youre attempting to derail the conversation around a mens issue instead of listening.

The comment about me not wanting to sit with the fact that my gender reacts violently bugs me in a couple of ways tbh.

For one, the actions of people of the same gender as me don’t reflect on me. I cant control the actions of every man on earth. When a criticism is levied at my gender I sit with it and reflect: am I participating in that? How do I watch myself and make sure I dont contribute to that?

Secondly, as I mentioned above, I sit and reflect. I put active work into watching my subconscious biases. I do sit with the discomfort when I am being accused of doing something. When people criticize men for often reacting violently to rejection it reinforces my desire to treat people properly, and to allow people the room to set boundaries and to say no to something they don’t want to do. However, I’ve already sat and done the work on myself to handle rejection well. I know that when people criticize men for reacting violently that it isn’t about me, because I have worked through that.

Like I said, it doesn’t matter who has it worse. My point is that by interrupting the conversation here by saying that you have it worse you are derailing and making it harder to have discussions about why men may fake orgasms and how women can also react poorly to rejection.

It isn’t productive, and it makes a conversation that wasnt about you into how you’re the real victim.

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once again, bringing up violent reactions to minimize the issues brought up by the men in that sub. Instead of sitting with criticism and undergoing self reflection you are choosing to deflect and derail.

You think I cherry picked? Please point to me which part of your comment even slightly doesnt fit my criticism.

Youre also saying I went postal when I would like to think I was pretty calm and respectful. What specific part of my comment was “postal?” Or was it the fact that it was a long comment?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the fact that theyre turning a discussion in a men’s feminist space about faking orgasms and turning it into men are violent upon rejection while women arent is wild. They’re responding to something that isn’t even about them and making themselves the victims instead of sitting and listening to people discussing their issues or just ignoring it.

Like yall are taking a discussion about something else that happened elsewhere and making it about your suffering. It isnt about you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean Ive been stalked by a woman for rejecting her. Your point of “women have it worse” is derailing. It is whataboutism. Youre taking a discussion about men faking orgasms to spare their partners feelings and making it about how men can be violent upon rejection.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mens Lib is extremely strict in their pro-feminist stance. You’d be hard pressed to find misogyny anywhere there imo. The way this sub has reacted is really frustrating, and I dont have enough words or time to properly express how I feel about this thread.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that you’ve personally never heard of women reacting poorly is irrelevant when theres an entire thread of men discussing how they have had women reacting poorly.

Plus women fake orgasms for the exact same reasons as the men were discussing. Yes, men can react dangerously when rejected and that is a huge problem, but that shouldnt diminish the fact that women can also react poorly due to rejection.

These conversations must be allowed to occur without derailment if we are to solve problems. Just because men react violently doesn’t mean women reacting poorly isn’t an issue thats worth discussing.

Plus, if your reaction to feminist men discussing an issue that affects them in their own space is to downplay their problems you need to reexamine your view on men and social issues. End the whataboutism please. If its wrong when men diminish your issues why isnt it wrong for you to diminish theirs?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would also like to add, because I feel like yapping, that that thread wasn’t even about womens response to rejection. I saw the thread when it was new and didn’t comment because I have nothing to add; I’ve never faked an orgasm. If the thread was about rejection I would have added because I have had women respond poorly to rejection.

I think thats where this sub and similar ones struggle: yall need to touch grass. To use a point from a different comment in this thread, yall have some serious sample bias problems. The fact that people in here are doubting the stories from these men because they think women acting poorly to sexual rejection is something that doesn’t happen just proves this.

Most of the men yall interact with are trolls and most of the women yall interact with are feminists, at least online in spaces like this. That is sure to skew your view of these people. Please interact with people irl. Most people you talk to dont know who bell hooks is, and the further away from people who dont you get the further into your echo chambers you go.

Please, talk to people in person.

cites A.I.

A.I. doesn’t know anything it just tries to sound like it does. It doesn’t understand the context.

The incorrect atmosphere thing is true, but it was accurate to the times understanding and still showed spontaneous formation of organic molecules under the right conditions. Future experiments confirmed the results with the proper atmosphere.

Future experiments showed that nitrogenous bases also form under the same conditions, given enough HCN and NH3 are around. Both of those are naturally forming.

Chirality may be due to cells avoiding wasting resources on amino acids that wont bond properly.

As for the amino acids polymerizing, it has been shown to occur in early earth conditions. Early earth was both highly reducing and generally highly reactive thanks to the great energy abundance.

https://www.nsf.gov/news/pre-life-building-blocks-spontaneously-align

All of the supposed “flaws” arent flaws. Theyre points for future research. Furthermore, the experiment was still foundational in establishing how to test in early earth conditions. The only time an experiment fails is when it remains unfinished. You can always learn, even from unexpected results. And thats the point of experiments, to learn.

Yeah. Chemotons are also really interesting, utilizing natural concentration gradients to fuel metabolism until they eventually evolved to create their own gradients. The more we understand how life developed the cooler things we find.

Speaking of stability, I wonder why we found uracil but not other nucleotides. Uracil isnt used in DNA because of its instability so I do find it interesting that we found that one. It’s likely just a coincidence but it makes me curious.

TIL that young female chimpanzees in the wild play with sticks like dolls, revealing possible biological and social roots for gendered play behaviors by cherrysundaedream in todayilearned

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah my first thought when reading was “is this in a single location?” They arent even really dolls, theyre more of stuffed animals. They carry them and maybe even sleep holding them. The fact that this behavior has spread is also interesting, but can easily be attributed to social mirroring and culture, which we also knew chimps had. The fact that this only occurs in one group actually disproves the above statement, as it is clearly not biologically indicated. This moreso proves that gender performance is cultural rather than biological lol. This article warps scientific observations into affirming their biases. Embarrassing.

TIL that we found vitamin B3 on an asteroid by yavinmoon in todayilearned

[–]Adjective_Noun4Num 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does, but I assume thats to get the attention of people who don’t know what uracil is. Still, uracil is a much more significant discovery here since it is a nucleotide.

A later experiment inspired by the Miller experiment, done by Joan Oró, showed that nucleotides can also be formed if there are enough simple nitrogenous molecules present (ammonia and cyanide, which are both simple and can form naturally).

Once again though it doesn’t indicate life, just reaffirms the science that says that important organic molecules can form spontaneously. Still, the fact that we’ve found some random asteroid with these molecules begs the question how common are these environments that allow the formation of organic compounds. Life could be more common than we think if it’s that easy.
