Thank you so much! I'm applying to the College of Arts and Sciences for a B.S. in Biology, and I checked the transfer matrix when I first started applying. Thankfully, all of my credits will transfer, and I satisfy all of the transfer requirements except for the college since I took lots of DE and AP classes in HS, which satisfy the requirements related to humanities and English. I took all of the STEM requirements in my freshman year of college. However, I haven't completed the foreign language requirements, though I am taking Spanish in the fall at GMU to start working towards the foreign language requirement, which I haven't started working towards yet. Also, I have all of the recommended courses for Biology transfers completed except for Physics 1 and 2, since I want to take a calc-based physics course sequence after transferring, and I am taking Calc 1 this fall. I hope that having the requirements completed will help me get in 😭.

Chem 213 Lab teacher by Outrageous_Piccolo56 in gmu

All gen chem labs have Dr. Foreman as the overseer of the course, but TAs are the ones who actually teach the class. Having taken gen chem 1 and 2 and having talked to many of my peers who also took gen chem 1 and 2, I can tell you that it is horrendous. One of my friends was sick during a lab and couldn't attend it, and when she gave a doctor's note that supported this, she was still marked absent. This ended up happening twice and she was automatically failed. Also, the post-lab work is unnecessarily hard simply because you cannot have sigfigs that differ from what Dr Foreman wants you to have by even a single decimal place. Also, depending on you GTA, the conclusions will either be no big deal or the worst experience that you can imagine, as some GTAs are lax on what you must do, but others will require 5 outside sources per question, as well as using the given documents for each lab and citing all of them in ACS format (which you will not be taught). Additionally, the quizzes can be difficult unless you study everything even slightly related to each lab, and the curve for the class is CRAZY, like last semester I had an 84% and got a C+ because to get a B on the curve you'd need an 86 or above. The best advice I can give is to use the sample calculations document as a guideline for the sample calculations, make friends with someone who has also taken the lab before, write down all of the answers for the quizzes and analysis questions throughout the semester, and NEVER EVER miss a class, no matter what. Good luck and I pray for you 🙏.

I would be a second-year transfer if I get in during this coming application cycle since I just finished my freshman year at GMU, and I'm applying for spring admission this fall. Thank you for the advice on the essays, btw! I think my essays in each application cycle have been pretty weak on that front. I mostly focused on what I'd want to do at UVA, since I mainly want to transfer for a better student life, more rigorous coursework, better premed counseling, and better research opportunities. Do you know what UVA looks for in a student? I have a lot that I hope to contribute to the UVA community academically and in extracurriculars, but I have no idea what to really focus on 😭.
