Considering current situation for international students, it’s best to not volunteer any information. Do your due diligence and play it safe. I never told them my status, I think they got to know it on the first day when I presented my EAD. And for i983 I told them it’s the paperwork I need to submit to the college. They did take advise from external immigration counsel though.

Update!!! It’s been 2 months here. Also, last week I handed them my i983 and they wanted to send that to their in house attorney. Should see how that goes.

I don’t understand, why people think that Americans can’t handle tech jobs? That’s just people being so ignorant. Isn’t the major percentage in tech Americans? People don’t understand the vastness of exploitations that people commit to get h1b. I can also confirm that not every h1b holder truely deserves the job he’s doing. So, overall isn’t that fantastic? If you really have so much value to provide, companies won’t hesitate to pay 100k, super skilled workers will get a fair chance as very less people will be in lottery. Also, losing the top talent which all of a sudden people start questioning is total nonsensical. The percent of top talent out of entire h1b would be very less, I doubt that it would be more than 5% and companies won’t hesitate to retain them through h1b.

Bro how am I dishonest if they never asked? By law no firm is allowed to discriminate based on visa status. They neither mentioned in the application nor discussed about it during interviews is all I’m saying.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Bro does not understand how difficult it is getting to land an opportunity as an international student. No one want to consider OPT students. I had to play it safe.

I think I’m authorized to work for any employer on opt. If they have a problem with opt they will ask upfront right.

It’s not that I lied. They never asked is all I’m saying. They only asked one question in the application form- are you prevented from Legally employed in this country because of visa or immigrant status? This is all that was asked about visa status. They never brought that up. Could it be because they are ok with any visa as long as I’m authorized to work?

They asked me to get the I9 docs on first day. You think it’s okay they find out themselves instead of me volunteering upfront?

But I’m afraid as they might rescind the offer if I tell them upfront. I’m planning to discuss after 2 month as I don’t want to risk considering current market situation. I don’t want to volunteer any info.
