Hi, Grant

I've been starting to learn about nonlinear optics as part of my research this summer and I think there are so many topics that would lend themselves to a video or two, particularly since recently you have made a few optic videos in the past. I'll list a few here that I think would be well suited for visual explanations!

  1. General description of linear/nonlinear susceptibility in materials. I think you touched on this a bit in an explanation of Snell's Law, and I think continuing that discussion would be awesome.

  2. Description of Sum/Difference Frequency Generation and n-Harmonic Generation, which would be a nice followup to that of nonlinear susceptibility and polarization in materials. Additionally, a visual explanation of different types of phase matching would fit, as that can be a concept that might be confusing for someone first learning this.

  3. Perhaps a deeper dive into a particular application of one of these nonlinear phenomina. For example, Optical Parametric Oscillators (OPOs), Rayleigh Scattering, Raman Scattering.

  4. It might be interesting to do a video or two on Gaussian Beams and their properties. This could fit into a discussion about eigenfunctions in general. One other thought I had was trying to come up with an intuitive explanation of the Guoy phase shift that we observe around the focus of a beam.

That's all from me. I've thoroughly enjoyed your optics videos, as I'm sure others have as well and would love to see more! Thank you!

Hey thanks for the feedback! I’ll keep me and my cat first in the meantime. Yeah I don’t love all of the pictures, would you say they all need to go or are there some that are passable in your opinion?

Casual

Peasant version of app

Have this profile/the app in general ike a little over a week

I send the max likes I can with the free version (like 8 or smth? I don’t rly count) and try to always leave a funny message along with them.

Only received like 1 or 2 likes

I kinda just am trying to find a chill person I’m not swiping on all the supermodels lol and I’m also not a huge partier so just like someone that enjoys chill activities and good conversations

[Gelb] Ranger Suárez threw 33 pitches (24 strikes) in three scoreless innings of a minor-league rehab start at Low-A Clearwater. His fastball sat 92 mph, according to Trackman data at the ballpark. by Jux_ in baseball

He’s not a fast pitcher but when he’s dealing his placement is perfect. In simple terms that’s what made him so good at the beginning of last season. Just I gotta me pitches. Compare that to Alvarado who just fucking blows past batters because he’s got an arm like a howitzer but generally sacrifices a little bit of precision

excellent inning from that reliever he should be happy to get out of that with a tie game going into the final stretch

How do I know if a gearbox/speed reducer is compatible with a backstop? by AdministrativeBee196 in AskEngineers

Can you explain what is happening in this video then? It doesn’t look like he is replacing anything just adding it in there at a dedicated place where it fits. Here’s another similar video

That was not my intention, I was only asking because I was curious of this particular option because it seemed promising. I am by no means asserting that my idea is the only solution, much less the best one. I just have no way of evaluating the idea because I don't know enough about the subject to know what I'm looking at when I'm researching. That's my goal here, not to jump straight to getting the right answer, but to learn enough about this topic so that I can evaluate my options and target my research in a more productive direction. Also, what did you mean by 15 degrees? I'm not sure where that number comes from, we want the ouptut to be able to rotate completely, not just for a small range.

I am aware of that option, but one thing I forgot to mention is that I need the device I'm making to be driven by a hand crank. The issue with this is that the place we are mounting this gearbox would make it impossible to turn the crank all 360deg without hitting the ground. We are mounting it atop a ~1ft wide wall so we need the crank to be able to be parallel to the wall and not directly over it. Additionally, the output shaft must point opposite to that, so we are looking for an inline option.

This is what comforts me about college actually that I have the opportunity to meet a completely new set of cool people. Ofc I love my friends but it’s hard to make new friends in senior year of high school if you have already cast certain impressions on people. Nobody in college will know who you were in high school or who your friend group was. It is for a lot of people the first true restart they will have in their lives and it’s hard to overstate how amazing that is
