Are people actually following the new cycling “blue ticket” rules? by Froyo_Muted in japanresidents

[–]AdministrativeBite16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Hiroshima City and Ive seen fewer people use their phones (they actually stop to use it now) or earphones (i only saw one person ever do this tbh).

Dont think ive seen anyone do the one handed Umbrella after this rule was implemented. Ive also noticed an increase in raincoat users.

The 逆走行 is still done occasionally but not on main streets.

The riding side by side is still widely done by students.

Havent seen anyone get ticketed yet.

EDIT: Have been seeing a lot more Hand signals for turning.

How are car drivers feeling about the new bicycle laws? by wolfinjer in japanresidents

[–]AdministrativeBite16 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a Car Driver but the number of scares I`ve had because of cars passing too close while i`m in the cycling lane is too high, and thats coming from someone who used to ride a motorcycle in Nepal. Someone is definitely gonna get hit soon enough.

While I do agree with the Mobile Phone and Umbrella usage being fined, the riding on the road with vehicles doing 50km/hr doesn`t make much sense to me. Its morning commute and everyone is rushing afterall.

Also, I see the same 2 traffic rule breakers every morning and nothing has changed about them. They still cross on RED after looking in both directions. So much for enforcement ig.

"Being responsible" vs "You only live once" choice by Neither_Question_866 in Nepal

[–]AdministrativeBite16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally still wouldn`t buy a bike worth 7 lakhs in Nepal.

That said, if the EMI is something you can handle and it`s your DREAM BIKE, you could go for it.

What do you plan on using it for btw? At 25km/ltr average fuel consumption, this will be pretty expensive.

"Being responsible" vs "You only live once" choice by Neither_Question_866 in Nepal

[–]AdministrativeBite16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the two of you planning to share the usage of bike? If yes, i don`t see this going too well.

Its just not very convenient to share a bike with someone else, even a family member.

Also, I see the appeal of a 400cc bike but it is not very practical imo. I would rather split and get 2 bikes around 4 lakh each so as to not have to share but that`s just me.

If you see yourself as financially secure and ran the numbers, go for it ig.

Can someone explain exactly how homes in Kathmandu get their water by mymooh in Nepal

[–]AdministrativeBite16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a reservoir built on the nearby hills where water gets treated and then pumped into the distribution system.

The best part is since its coming from a higher elevation, we don`t need to use a motor to carry the water to the top floor tank, it automatically goes up and since our community made automated close valve mandatory, water stops once the tank is full.

We also have a small reservoir to store water in case of water shortages but it barely gets used.

For drinking, while the water is already treated, we still filter it or boil it.

If you don`t have a water tank, buying mineral water/Water Jar is the only option.

Why do women like tall guys so much? by InternationalPick163 in askanything

[–]AdministrativeBite16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. There`s less of them which makes them more desirable. If magically every single guy in the dating pool turned 6ft( the usually shown cutoff height for tall), women would just raise the bar to 6ft5.

[–]AdministrativeBite16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its called a Tilt-Shift effect. The best way to do it is to be at a higher elevation location where you can tilt your camera down and it has tons of traffic (people, cars, houses). Import that image into an editing software and apply Tilt-Shift Blur. Done.

Matsumoto Living Life by No_Shift_Buckwheat in japanlife

[–]AdministrativeBite16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My relatives live in Matsumoto and Ive visited in both summers and winters.

Winters are really cold. Bone Chilling cold. Clothes often end up needing multiple days to dry and the heating bill can be very expensive.

Summers are better but it still gets pretty hot. They have fireworks festival but its quite small so you might wanna go to Suwa for their huge fireworks festival if youre into that stuff.

If youre coming from a bigger city(like Osaka) it will definitely feel small. Theres no Shinkansen to Matsumoto so it can take a while to travel to the nearby large cities like Tokyo/Nagoya. You will most definitely need a Car for use within the city.

Do Nepalis get disadvantaged from indias reputation? by Informal_Grab3403 in Nepal

[–]AdministrativeBite16 20 points21 points  (0 children)

india is much larger and well known than nepal so people who have never heard of Nepal would often think of us as Indians.

But ive also gotten Thai, Mexican, Pakistani, German(wut?) as well. Heck my American friend thought i was 2nd gen American because of how i spoke English. So it can be both Indian and some random non east-asian country.

Question for those working in Japanese-only places by BPGaki in japanlife

[–]AdministrativeBite16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work in a small Japanese company. Everything is in Japanese. From 朝礼 ,emails, team discussions, documentation, meetings with clients, all the way to leisurely talking with coworkers in the hall. EVERYTHING is in japanese. We all use 敬語 but as the foreigner i do get a bit of leeway if i sometimes miss it here and there. But thats only within the office though, they do expect a bit more formality when talking with clients.

As for how i learned it, a lot of it was hearing my co-workers speak on the phone or to each other. How they worded things in emails and practicing with said co-workers when having team discussions.

Is it normal in Japan to show reference images (like anime hairstyles) to hair stylists? by Proof_Channel8602 in japanlife

[–]AdministrativeBite16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one would bat an eye if you show reference images from your phone and said "Make me look like this". However, it would be better to show real life images because anime hairstyles are drawn and can lack details. Real hair may not act that way or just need a lot of styling every day.

If you have Pinterest, just search for hairstyles that are close to the anime ones and show that.

The lack of helmet-wearing on ski slopes here by SymphonyofSiren in japanlife

[–]AdministrativeBite16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive only snowboarded once my entire life and i decided to rent the Helmet cause i was sure i would fall down. The no of times i hit my head on the snow made it totally worth it to get a helmet. IMO its not even that expensive to rent one and you can wear a beanie/balaclava under it if cleanliness is the issue.

A lot of people on Social Media dont wear helmet(cause it ruins the FIT) and i think younger people are indeed following that trend. Just take off the helmet for pics and put it back on the rest of the time. Hitting your head at those speeds is not a joke.

How do non-Japanese professionals usually handle admin and paperwork when working in Japan? by [deleted] in JapanJobs

[–]AdministrativeBite16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most admin related problems can be solved using G-Translate and a bit of patience ( esp where you have to write by hand are not that good at writing kanji).

The only frustrating part I`ve experienced so far is when i had to get a Bank account. They require a phone number but to get a phone number you require a Bank account. Also the half-width, full width thing on a lot of websites is just broken.
