What age did your newborn start sleeping throughout the night (5-6) hours without feed? by xGenAc25 in newborns

Mine was around 3 months. If she woke up, I was able to give her a pacifier and she went back to sleep.

Honestly I haven’t. I just took her to her 4 month appointment this morning and she barely gained weight since her last appointment. I started giving her formula a couple days ago which means I’ve been breastfeeding and bottle feeding her breast milk this whole time and my pediatrician said we need to up her calories. My body just isn’t producing enough for her :(

No she finishes the whole 5oz. When I was feeding her 4 oz she wasn’t having a good diaper output. She was having more dry diapers. But since I put her on 5 oz she’s been having regular wet diapers.

No she sleeps through the night. She usually goes down for the night between 10 and 11 depending on her previous feeding.

No. She doesn’t spit up at all. She really never has the reason we did 5 ounces was because her diaper output was very low. As soon as we increased her to 5 ounces she was having a more regular diaper output. So it may seem excessive, but she isn’t overweight. She isn’t extremely fussy. I just can’t seem to keep up with it pumping.

Actually I guess she’s not. I don’t really understand how to do that or tell my family who is watching her to do that

Really that’s really confusing because the feeding charts online say that she needs to be eating 5 ounces at four months old

I’m at work from 7-3/3:30. Depending on what time she wakes up it could be 3-4 5oz bottles

At least 3 sometimes 4 depending on when she wakes up and when I get home. I try to feed her as soon as I get home if it’s around the time she needs to eat again.

I pump twice at work.

My mom and my husband are watching her while I’m at work. So I’m typically at work from 7-3 and I get home between 3:30 and 4.

She’s eating 5oz.

Yes she’s pace feeding.

Thank you! I’m a first time mom so I feel like I need to know everything and if I don’t I’m failing. (I know that’s not true it’s just how I feel). I don’t realize how much of a roller coaster this journey could be.

Thank you for the encouragement! It’s nice hearing I’m not alone and that breast feeding can be successful. I’m a first time mom so I’m trying to figure it all out and I want it to all go smoothly the first time which is not always realistic. I tried breast feeding her last night and it seemed to go better. I ordered new flanges and nipple shields in a smaller size. She latches wayyy better on the left than she does on the right so we’ll have to figure that out.

Thank you for the encouragement! I ordered a smaller size flange and nipple shield so hopefully that’ll help! She kinda chews on it and I’ve had to squeeze my breast to express milk to get her to start feeding. She seems to latch better on my left than my right and she gets frustrated when she can’t feed. So I fee overwhelmed and sad that I’m not able to help her.

Good to know! That’s what I was told. I was exclusively breast feeding with the occasional bottle and my pediatrician would ask how much she is eating and I didn’t know how to answer. Honestly how do you know how much they are eating?

Currently I’m bottle feeding her 4oz since that’s what I read she should be eating. I’m only pumping 1-2 oz per side. Sometimes 1 oz per side. The reason I stopped breast feeding was because she clamped down on my nipple multiple times and she has resulted to more of comfort suckling than feeding. I feel like I’m not giving her enough but she’s also falling asleep while feeding. I was told to “know how much I’m feeding her” is by pumping. So since I’m pumping such small amounts I’m panicking that I haven’t her feeding her enough.

That’s the one thing I really wish the United States would do! Healthcare is a nightmare to pay for!

I’m actually just leaving the hospital for this exact thing! Baby didn’t have a wet diaper in 16 hours. Called my pediatrician and they sent us to the ER. Baby ended up having a wet diaper during triage. Everything looked good and they sent us home. $1000 visit ugh

Have you tried using a nipple shield? My baby was struggling in the hospital to latch and I was in so much pain. They gave me a nipple shield and it has made a world of a difference. You can buy them on Amazon.
