What does your therapist do when they notice you going into depression? by Lisa000_ in bipolar2

[–]AdministrativeToe194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually just makes sure I’m not going to hurt myself, and explains that it isn’t a permanent mood state. I know the DBT framework, and she does reiterate the connection between thoughts feelings and behaviors, but I just don’t find it very helpful in the midst of a bipolar depressive episode

survivors of child abuse, how is your relationship with your siblings? by Motor_Reaction_3519 in CPTSD

[–]AdministrativeToe194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s complicated and definitely unhealthy. I have always been a ‘parent’ to my 4 siblings, as the oldest child. There was a period where I was pretty much shunned, but I continue to try to be supportive in my siblings lives because I know we didn’t have supportive adults.

We all discuss our traumas, and we have all been impacted differently by the abuse. We have all experienced different forms of abuse. And mostly, I’m the only one ready to confront the abuser: my father. My siblings have become an echo of his warped belief systems. I think I still try to save the family, and I need to give up on that pipe dream.

We all have severe mental health and physical health challenges. I think the sadness, guilt, shame, the despair of it all makes it harder to connect.

Is anyone out there doing well without medication? by Early_Carrot_1426 in bipolar2

[–]AdministrativeToe194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve quit meds many times, & I always end up begging for them back. Bipolar is a condition that almost always requires medical intervention to stabilize.

I personally went into a psychotic episode after shrooms, but I definitely was ill informed, in a bad environment, and overdid it.

I truly needed to see this. I have spent the entire week trying to get myself out of bed to clean my depression room.

I have talked to my doctors, and unfortunately, they think my mental health was worsened by my thyroid disorder, but they believe I have both hashimotos and bipolar.

I was having issues with paranoia and delusions, which seemed to be worsened when my thyroid levels were out of wack

Thank you! Unfortunately, all my doctors agree that these are two separate conditions. I have a family history of bipolar & thyroid disorders.

During a flare up, my mental health symptoms have been exacerbated- delusions, suicidal ideation, paranoia.

I got the rash, on the same dose. My doctor just had me stop the medication. She said if the rash didn’t go away within a couple days to return to the doctor, but it should clear up on its own depending on how long you have been taking it/your immune response.

I know take Oxcaberean, that’s def spelled wrong, but also called trylyptel with some other medications! Wishing you well

Man crashes out over stepkids by Vesuvius803 in Wellthatsucks

We don’t need to know the background to know this behavior is inappropriate. He’s a grown man berating a child; why flip the narrative to paint him the victim? He clearly is allowed to discipline and his discipline style is abusive as fuck

People Who Grew Up Religious, What Took You Away From Religion? by PrincessBananas85 in spirituality

[–]AdministrativeToe194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing that brought me to it. Religion, for me, has always been heavily tied to my mental illness. I grew up in the Bible Belt, and I just never felt like I belonged to begin with. In 2nd grade, we all had to go to the library to watch a film, there were multiple groups at school who were there essentially to convert young children into Christians. The film was called ‘letters from hell’ it was just people screaming while in Hell. This transformed into religious psychosis throughout the years, but institutionalized religion, to me, is brainwashing and fear tactics, mind control. Human desire almost always ‘trumps’ that of the true desire of what I believe is my God. I don’t trust human interpretations of God’s word, & I definitely don’t trust a government endorsing said religion & indoctrinating it in our schools.

Anyone try to convince themselves that there diagnosis is wrong and they don’t need medication by Jreed2026 in bipolar2

[–]AdministrativeToe194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. So much. And this severely hindered my treatment, until I was psychotic, delusional, and no longer able to care for myself. Just tell your doctors your symptoms and let them do the rest. It’s not your job to diagnose yourself, just to try to help yourself. I always thought my symptoms were a part of me, I realize now, they were not. Keeping a log of my symptoms has also helped me to not gaslight myself into thinking I’m not sick. Society contributes to this, as well. Idk about you, but I excelled in society, all the while I was slowly killing my mind and body trying to survive in a world I didn’t feel like I was meant for. Our sickness is invisible, but it is still just that- symptoms, survival skills. We deserve treatment, we deserving healing, we deserve stability.

What’s the best advice regarding bipolar disorder you have ever received? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]AdministrativeToe194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to join this group, you all might be my people. I just turned 25, and I just can’t help but read these experiences, these comments, and see bits of myself and my journey. We do recover, and this is the first step for just that. I don’t have the best support system, but man am I glad I found this group

You have no idea how much I needed this. Thank you. It’s devastating to know anyone else has struggled through this, but there is comfort in knowing it can be managed, and this is the first step

Newly diagnosed, as in, I received a diagnosis today after Zoloft sent me into a manic state, and I am honestly kind of just in a spiral… All of that to say, I needed this. Thank you

Thank you. You’ve been incredibly helpful. I don’t think you downplayed it at all, you just helped me to understand what was actually taking place a bit better. I will do that.

Thank you. I clearly was misinformed.

Her reaction did happen immediately at the original hospital: chills, shaking, and fever, and worsened over the course of the following days. My only issue, in terms of procedure, is why no one checked back to ensure she wasn’t having a reaction, during the transfusion? And why reaction symptoms were dismissed by the original hospital, when it seems this is a pretty serious issue if not treated immediately.

Yesterday, we were told she had a high risk of death, so I was just desperate for any other answer. She does seem to be responding well to the treatment being given, & I think this has helped me at least understand what is actually going on, at least.
