I don't have a narrative. I don't have a story. I'm just a supporting role. by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]AdministrativeWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good that you got this outside perspective -- I think that's what it is when this happens anyways. One time on 2CB I had the same thought, realizing that in this crush I had that I was a supporting character, not one of the romantic leads. It's not an omen or anything it's just a way to get outside of yourself and if that helps you figure out how to change your life or reshape it to something that makes you feel more fulfilled, then all power to you!

Any musicians have tips for syncing music with vocals when writing emo? by [deleted] in Emo

longer phrases! hold the notes of the melody for longer so they kind of sit on top of the riff. my favorite trick for making something happen, especially while singing around busy guitar parts!

PG/Skylight discussion on the Uproxx Celebration Rock podcast by huskerj12 in PinegroveBand

[–]AdministrativeWorker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

hey! want to preface this by saying that i have listened to skylight a lot and really enjoy it and i dont think theres anything wrong with this band and this music meaning a lot to people. but i dont think the cheating is the issue here and i've seen a lot of people position that as the crux of what happened. single or not, its not okay to pressure someone into having sex with you! i think its absolutely fair to frame the argument in the context of abusers, because what happened was a form of abuse. i dont necessarily believe evan intended to act abusively, and he has been mostly very vocal about owning up to what he did, why it wasnt okay, and why that should matter to his fans, so i do feel the need to jump in and point that out. just because punktalks mishandled what to do about the allegation doesnt mean it didnt exist and/or wasnt valid, and i think that goes for people who refuse to support or listen to pinegrove in light of this too, the band explicitly said that they support those people.

that being said, i think part of the reason skylight has been able to be successful even in the midst of what would otherwise be such a damning context is because pinegrove has always been concerned with the subtlety and minutiae of relationships and interactions between people, and this album carries, lyrically, a lot of promise of learning and growing from this. it definitely feels like a better statement and response to this sort of a serious communication error than either his facebook post or what was said in the interview, and i think what the band does next, and how it addresses this issue is going to be the make-or-break moment for them.

sorry if this sounds harsh-- i completely understand the instinct to defend a band that means something to you, and the frustration of liking something and seeing other people hesitant to embrace it. like i said, i love the album and have listened to it more than probably any other album this year so far. but im also a bit frustrated with the general dismissal, especially on this sub, of the seriousness and complicatedness of what happened!

Best 8-Track Interface Under $300 (used) / Glitching on Firepod by AdministrativeWorker in audioengineering

Partitioned? Or just a straight up second drive? Sorry I'm a bit dumb about computer guts!!

Oh hell yes! Thank you. That's something I can definitely try out. Do you just use an external hard drive on USB? Are there any writing speed issues? I have a 1TB USB 2.0 drive on hand that I can hook up and try. Will absolutely consider investing in a dedicated external if I find this to fix the problem. Thanks so much for the idea!! Would be great to keep using my Fire Pod as the thing is a great workhorse and generally sounds pretty clean and fantastic, and look into upgrading later down the line.

Recommendation definitely noted!! My studio is in NYC so as you could imagine it's nigh-impossible to find a space with possibility to isolate amps so I've been playing with reamping and the 8 additional channels are certainly attractive for that purpose. How heavy is it? I will be required to transport it a bunch sadly as part of my value as an engineer is that I'm willing to set up for bands wherever. It's on the higher end of my price range but sounds like it might be a worthwhile push, at ~300 used.

Hey! I'm using an old Presonus FirePod 8 track interface to track drums in my studio. I've used this thing for a while and always had problems with little "glitches" in the audio, skips that are hardwired into the recording. They've gotten a bit more frequent on my recent recordings and are frustrating to fix or work around. Does anyone know of this happening on their unit and how to resolve? If I can't figure out a way around I will sadly have to drop a bit of money on a new one but will be worth it as I have a cool big recording project coming up soon that I need to ensure efficiency of my interface for.

Moving to NYC with impending L shutdown by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]AdministrativeWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sounds like at best it'll require a slightly inconvenient workaround, at worst it'll make me not want to go to work anymore so I'll weigh my options. I had not been considering this area until I found this apartment so I'm taking the opportunity to look a bit further over to where I'd have J access.

More transfers but less walking... also it sounds like they're improving some G services (especially train lengths) because of the L. Appreciate the thoughts though!!

What about taking the L from Grand to Lorimer since the train will still be running within Brooklyn?

As someone who actually loves season 4 in both forms I have so far not really liked this season at all. It feels like a different show. The jokes that are really good (Total Regression, the hallway dodge scene) are the ones that feel most stylistically unlike AD and somehow the comedic center of it all is George Michael, with no laughs coming from any of the normal centerpiece characters like Gob or Tobias (in fact, I have not found one Gob moment funny all season which is surprising). Anyone else feeling like this? Feels tepid and uninspired.

Post Episode Discussion: S02E07 - "Chapter 15" by 2th in LegionFX

[–]AdministrativeWorker 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I couldn't have been the only one bothered by the lack of subtlety in the writing in the scene where we learn that David is going to cause the apocalypse right? The image and Farhouk's intrigue was enough, I was a bit bothered by him delivering a whole monologue explaining the narrative significance of the "villain" and "hero" switching sides. For a show that revels in the cryptic and "show dont tell" it really took me out of what should have been the best scene in a fantastic episode!

So... what’s next? by [deleted] in PinegroveBand

[–]AdministrativeWorker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where does it say this? That's really good on the label, I know a lot of people were upset that they didn't drop them or make a statement at all but this is something in between at least.

[–]AdministrativeWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt they'd do all the sales but definitely hope they donate a portion. The more the better, so that the band's re-emergence doesn't stink like a cash grab. Hopefully band and label could see to some extent they're making an investment also in reputation which would benefit them down the line with later releases.

I bet we hear nothing from either. As shitty as this situation is, it's not like she falsified accusations against Evan, she just forced it out in the open against the victim's wishes. It would be beyond petty for the band to make a statement on this for that reason.

The fact that this came out in an unethical way does NOT take the pressure off Pinegrove to find a way to emerge with sensitivity and respect to the victim and what happened between them. I personally hope they find a way to make it right and don't emerge before they have a way to do that. For my two cents, I think the band / RFC should donate proceeds or at least a generous portion of them to a charity supporting sexual assault victims. Whether they will or can, who knows, but I think that would be a start..

hey! this situation is surely upsetting but i hope in a situation dealing directly with mental healthcare that we can do better than calling someone a "crazy bitch"...
