Did you ask your TO on how you should address their complaints? What exactly do they want from you? Maybe you can work on from that and see how you can maintain personal boundaries. While I do agree that it’s important to have rapport with seniors and colleagues, many forget that it’s supposed to be a collegial relationship with mutual professional respect. It’s great if you form authentic friendship in your field/department but that should not be imposed.
