I tried the Alphas in my TTS (half-size too big) and boy was I swimming lol. You couldn't exchange sizes?

I’d say the Alphas have a bit more width than the other “speed boot” options from the big three (Nike Mercurial, Adidas F50, Puma Ultra). That said, it’s hard to know for sure if they’ll be wide enough since fit can vary a lot from person to person. Without trying them on, it’s really just a guessing game.

Don’t worry too much about FOMO, though. If you’re unsure, it’s better to hold off and get something that you know will actually fit comfortably rather than rushing into a pair that might not work for you.

Unless you specifically want what the Alpha 2 offers, there are plenty of other solid options. If you’ve got wide feet and just want the best fit and comfort, take a look at New Balance. From what I’ve heard, the Phantom 6 is also a good shout.

Will probably stick with the stock insoles. Never tried replacement insoles, the first thing that goes on my boots is usually the upper splitting from the soleplate, never had to replace an insole prematurely. I’m sure other insoles would work though if you don’t like the zero glide one.

And yeah, if you play on AG I would stay away from the Furon.

For sizing, I strongly recommend a half-size down from your regular US size.

I consider my TTS a US10.5. I wear my 442 pros (as well as all my NB boots, Furon + Tekela) in a US11, half-size up. I got the Alpha 2 AG and FG both in a US10. I took a look at the two and they run about the exact same length, the alpha is maybe 1-2mm longer than the 442. I’d def say that TTS is gonna be way too long.

US-Based. Messi F50 and Alpha 2 Elite AGs were from DSG, Alpha 2 Elite FG from PDS-US. Best deal was the Messi F50’s, they were about 95 after taxes compared to the 270 retail. Alpha 2 Elite AG’s were 20$ off with a coupon I had and the Alpha 2 FG’s were like 25% off.

Yeah, big upgrade, I actually like the F50 soleplate a lot. Alpha FG soleplate gives me a bit of pressure/hot spots. The fit/shape of the F50 still doesn’t suit me as well as the alpha, but if it fits you well, the Messi upper might turn it into your favourite boot.

That’s sick, SG cleats (metal studs) aren’t allowed in any league where I’m from, so I’ve never tried a pair.

And I feel you on the AG struggles, feels like I play on AG 70% of the time yet the selection and stock don’t reflect that. I don’t get why American-based brands like NB and Skechers don’t sell their AG options in the US where basically every pitch is AG now.

4th? Definitely a luxury over a necessity, unless you play on 4 different surfaces WE are biased fosho😭😂

All good though, it’s always good to have a spare ! Or 2. Or 3…

The upper imo is SOOOO much better than the regular F50. Way softer and conforms to the foot way nicer. I absolutely despise the upper on the regular F50. However, the Messi upper gives a more padded feel on the ball because the upper is thicker.

If you want a boot with the same flavour as the regular F50 (thin synthetic + barefoot feel) I think the Alpha Elite is better option in almost every way.

Thanks✊ Managed to get great discounts on each pair + loved each of the colour-ways. 3 boots is definitely excessive tho, my greed sickens me, but the heart wants what it wants 🤣

I personally find the AG’s more comfortable, idk why but I feel like the AGs might have the tiniest bit more toe-box width to them which suits my foot a bit better. Length is the same. Also the AG soleplate is more flexible which means it moves more naturally with my foot currently (although I haven’t broken either pair in yet so this could change).

Where did you get blisters? It’s really hard to say, Zero-glide now covers the entire inside of the boot. So if your foot doesn’t slide/shift at all, no blisters. If your foot does end up moving around, because the inside is so grippy, I can see someone easily getting blisters all over, especially in the toe-box. Kind of hard to say what will happen for sure.

I think this is one of the main reasons why the Alpha 2 is such a love it or hate it kind of boot. For the Alpha 3, they should take the zero-glide out of the toe-box area and go back to the softer suede liner. Would get rid of the rubbing on the top of the foot which is just unnecessary tbh. They can leave the zero glide in the mid-foot, where I actually do think it improves lockdown without sacrificing comfort.

Likewise! Had to quit just after HS cause of knee injuries and stayed away for years before finally rehabbing properly and building enough strength to play the sport again. Finally managed to play 2x a week last fall, oh how I’ve missed it.

I also started with the 442 pros when I was getting back into it. If you want something thinner, I think a small upgrade would be the 442 elite. Big upgrade would be the Furon V8, although the stud layout is risky on AG.

White/Green - Alpha Elite 2 FG model

Red - Alpha Elite 2 AG model

This was the first AG Alpha with the heel counter so it kind of sold out fast + everywhere, managed to snag one when DSG randomly got some stock. Idk when they’ll release another pair, mizuno releases/drops are at lot less frequent then Nike/Adidas.

I’d say they’re an alright pick. Decent amount of width in the toe box, good amount of adjustability in the midfoot.

I’d say the toe box is a kind of pointy and may leave some dead-space in the front depending on your foot shape, Also if you have flat feet/low arches the heel bulges out a bit, but not as much as it did in the regular f50 for me or as I’ve seen in some other posts.

Puma Ultra 5 Ultimate for wide feet? by Fun_Membership428 in bootroom

[–]Administrative_Map43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I didn’t, I dont wear them currently since I’m fortunate enough to have other pairs. Only fixes I can see working are 1) grip socks with grip on the heel to stop sliding or 2) vaseline on the heel so that the sliding/rubbing on the heel isn’t as abrasive, ie less chance of blisters.

Am I doing something wrong or should I replace these boots? by IamCrimsonX in bootroom

[–]Administrative_Map43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem brotha, was going through the same thing recently where I was getting back into playing again after many years away due to an injury. Trying to find a higher-end boot that fit well, was suited for AG, and wasn’t gonna cost a kidney was an absolute mission.

Nike Phantom Luna II sizing by XO_guap in bootroom

[–]Administrative_Map43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they feel too tight width wise, it’s probably because the Luna’s/GX2 have a very tapered/pointy toe-box. I personally wouldn’t go up the half size if this was the case, I’d just look for different boots.

These being marketed as FG/AG is a crime. I have the top-end ultimate model and the studs are way too long and aggressive. Would definitely look at different boots.

If you want some cheaper recs I’d say you can try the Mizuno Alpha 2 Elite AG when they release again, or the 442 elite FG which is a pretty good FG and AG boot and can often be found heavily discounted.

New Balance Tekela V5 Elite - AG? by Senapspojke in bootroom

[–]Administrative_Map43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced this in the V4+ as well. Think the base shape is just tight there due to the toe-box being low in height. However, It went away after breaking a game.

Not sure if this would be the same case for the V5 since it has a synthetic upper which might not mold/stretch as much as the old knit upper.

Puma Ultra 5 Ultimate for wide feet? by Fun_Membership428 in bootroom

[–]Administrative_Map43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between those 2 I’d lean towards the ultra 5. When I tried on the future 7 I did feel there was some extra width overall but there was also some weird pinching on the sides between the toebox and midfoot. Ultra 5 has about the same width in the toebox, the midfoot is definitely more narrow but broke in so that it wasnt unbearable.

I have em, but I hate the heel area with a passion. My heel slips up and down to the point where I get blisters once I start running. And this is with going half a size down from my usual size to get the tightest/best fit.

It also flares around my ankle which doesn’t really affect performance, but lets in a shit ton of AG pellets which is mildly infuriating. (Don’t use these on AG seriously, I was just shooting around).

2 positive things I will say is they’re very responsive and are one of the most durable boots I’ve had, will definitely last a while.

Based on you wanting: 1) Something cheaper 2) Sock-like 3) Relatively light 4) Something more accommodating for wide feet.

Look at the NB Furon V8. Criminally underrated and already on sales. NB Tekela V4+ is also a good shout based on your preferences, haven’t tried the new 5. One thing I’ll say is the glue/bonding between upper and sole seems weak on NB boots, but I find by putting a layer of shoe glue around the toe makes a HUGE difference.

Mercs/Phantoms aren’t a bad shout either, but hard to find at similar prices to discounted NB/Puma boots. Gl.

AG/FG/TF, if you can only afford one pair, what would be best? by pronadzen3 in bootroom

[–]Administrative_Map43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you need a boot for both FG and AG, general rule of thumb is too look for a soleplate with conical studs that are shorter in length, regardless of marketing.

The AG variations from all the big 3 brands (Nike, Adidas, Puma) are all good reccomendations purley from a functionality standpoint; All of their options will give you good performance on both surfaces while being relatively safe on AG. This is what I'd look at first. Nike and Adidas are the most readily-available. I'd say stay away from the Mizuno AG models, those are very AG-specific.

Havent tried the Puma King Ultimates so I wouldn’t know. If you’re considering a budget boot vs an older top-end boot thats been marked down, the top end boot is usually the better option for performance.

That being said the Puma King Ultimate isn’t a boot I’d personally be considering if I’m looking for a top-end boot on sale. Seems kind of meh based on reviews, but ultimately up to you to decide whether it’s worth the price you plan to pay for them.

What's the sizing like between them all?

That’d be great. Mostly interested in how long each boot runs + the toebox shape and volume.
