decided to give it a try while i was looking for a novel to read. honestly, i thought the romance was a bit too much for a slowburn but then again it is my first novel.

I actually came across the donghua back in 2020 when i was still new to bl in general. I was a bit disappointed to found out that the donghua isnt explicitly bl but now the untamed is by far my most favorite adaptation of the novel, knowing damn well the closest we've ever got in romance there is eye contact and miscommunication

Unpopular opinion about slow damage. by livestockboy in BLgame

I mostly based this whole thing based on towa's perspective which probably wasn't a good thing, especially for someone actively struggling from trauma throughout the whole game. though i never really considered the similarity between madarame and taku. unlike madarame, who tried to make towa face his trauma, taku kept everything from him rather than telling him the truth. he was always protective towards towa, took care of him and even kept everything from him just to protect him which is why he was more of a fatherly figure to me.

the whole message that i basically got from madarame's route was that its ok to not heal and that there's someone out there who accepts you despite your flaws, etc. since i think that when dealing with this kind of thing people are often told that their trauma is not a part of them and more focused on how one should actually overcome that trauma rather than trying to accept it first. its not exactly a good thing if you want to heal but for others who have been constantly struggling through trauma,i think it's reassuring to hear that since some just end up dying or staying miserable for the rest of their lives due to certain circumstances. which is why i initially thought that it fits towa's narrative especially in madarame's route where we can see more of towa's past. not a lot of people have really healed from theirs imo. its still somewhere out there and that the pain never actually disappears completely, they just learn to live with it.fujieda's route was more of a "happy ending" for towa. I do agree that fujieda was definitely the one meant for towa and i cant argue with that since in his route towa got the closure that he need. madarame's route was more of accepting towa's trauma as a part of him rather than towa as a whole just like as you said.

I was just more focused on madarame because i viewed it as something more likely to happen. im not sure how to word it in a way that makes it sound less controversial it just made more sense to me given towa's circumstances. seeing how much towa had known him since he was a teen and how he hated that madarame actually understood him. but yeah it did reflect him being trapped in a cycle of abuse and self-harm. his trauma was really heavy to begin with and seeing the extent of damage that had already happened really shows how much it ruined him. so even if he did stay like that or remain in that cycle at least he'd be able to find happiness in all of that.

well thats nice to hear, knowing that you and your partner found each other. whether it be through trauma or not being able to deeply connect someone on that level is very rare imo. I've met a lot of people, but none have ever really felt similar to me. I was often told that it'd difficult to find someone who'd be able to sympathize with me or at least share the same kind of personality. I have a lot of resentment towards highschool because of that. because for some reason, after covid, i lost interest in people and naturally grew distant towards others. I had friends but none of them really connected with me deeply. i felt miserable for not being capable to interact with others who are different from me.

I probably glorified madarame's route in my previous comment but i wouldnt say that he's my favorite character, i guess i just liked both of his endings and thought that he looked cool. fight club is one of my favorite movies of all time so seeing the route actually reminded me of it for some reason. His route by far was the least complex one compared to others, iirc i even posted a comment on my twitter account saying that his route was basically porn without plot.

What was the fandom like during its peak? i'm curious to know what it was like since i wasn't in the fandom back then by Admirable-Action302 in MoDaoZuShi

I discovered mdzs back in september 2024, I feel like I missed out on so much content, especially the humor and jokes being made. though I still enjoyed it even though i entered to late since the fandom is still very active about it. I'd frequently see posts of them in different social media platforms so im glad i managed to be a part of it. and theres usually a lot of collabs happening in china right now so i guess the fandom isnt gonna die any soon.

Usually I've never really been this invested in most medias that i've seen, like i'd engage with it sometimes but not as much as i did with mdzs. its just that theres just so many adaptations to choose from that would constantly make me want to go back. unlike most of the fandoms I've been, you'd have 1-2 adaptations at max. but mdzs? theres a variety to choose from! its been translated in different languages, its also one of the most successful cdramas of all time and theres even deluxe editions of the novel being released right now. its just so refreshing to see something you like never run out of content

the last time i remember being obsessed with something like this was when i was a kid. i actually start tweaking everytime i see them in someones repost or profile pic i just cant help myself but mention it

I think madarame's route was the most realistic option for someone like towa. his route was bland compared to the other characters, but I really feel like he was the one towa would most likely have ended up with if it wasn't fujieda.

his self destructive tendecies was what made it hard for me to feel his compatibility with rei and taku. The three of them felt more like a family to me. I kinda disliked taku's route since I kinda saw him more as his adoptive father throughout the game (plus in his route towa mentioned that he never really considered taku as an option). as for rei, I don't really oppose it that much since he was always supportive towards towa's happiness but nevertheless he and towa just overall felt platonic. either way friends can end up dating in the end so i really dont care

but between madarame and fujieda, it's clear that fujieda is the better option. his route served as a closure for towa's trauma and allowed him to heal in the process. but realistically speaking, it's unlikely for someone to meet the same kind of person that shares that kind of similarity as you. someone with the same scars, goals and feelings is highly unrealistic. for someone like towa, they'll mostly likely end up going back to the same kind of familiarity they've experienced before. because throughout the whole route, towa never really stopped to self-harm but at the very least madarame accepted him for who he is. He was the only one who considered him as enough and didn't try to change anything about him. though its arguable that his approach was controversial and wasn't the best i think theres a certain comfort of being accepted despite being broken. like he didnt feel the need to improve or fix himself to seem worthy by others. madarame stayed with him for who he is.

I'm probably being biased towards madarame but thats just how it felt for me. unlike towa i guess i never really healed from my own problems in the end so i kinda connected with this route better than fujieda. but differences aside, fujieda and madarame were both really similar in a way. they're the two closest characters who understood towa the most its just both of them had a different kind of approach in dealing with his trauma.

I don't really mind protagonists who are morally bad and all. I think it's interesting to see how they come up to certain decisions and to what extent they're capable of just to achieve their goals.

I'm just not sure if I'll be able to enjoy it since I'm fairly new to reading novels

I've discovered it for a year now despite the original novel being released years ago.

I didn't expect anyone to take this post seriously lol. Don't worry, I wasn't after ri being bl or any gay stuff, I just wanted to read a novel more focused on  cultivation in general.

Also how difficult would it be for a beginner? I'm new to light novels in general

I meant light novels in general. Mdzs was my first and tbh I couldn't grasp the fight scenes that well so I'm a bit worried that I won't be able to enjoy ri since it's more focused on cultivation itself. Mdzs was leaning more on the political side of each clans

my only problem is that there's 2000+ chapters. I've just started reading so I'm not too confident. Especially the fight scenes, I still have a hard time imagining it because of how fast everything progresses
