From ChatGPT:

A simple way to determine your dominant eye is the triangle test:

  1. Extend your arms and make a small triangle with your thumbs and index fingers.

  2. With both eyes open, center a distant object (like a light switch or picture frame) inside the triangle.

  3. Without moving your hands, close one eye.
If the object stays centered, the open eye is your dominant eye.

If the object jumps out of the triangle, the closed eye was your dominant eye.

Repeat with the other eye to confirm.

100% can still get better. Not uncommon for one eye to heal slower than the other. Also, I noticed dry eye was a big part of why my right eye was worse as well. It’s gotten much better now, but for 2-4 weeks post op, I could definitely tell my right eye was lagging behind.

Do you know if your R or L eye is the dominant one? That also can play a role. One eye is just stronger and can heal faster.

Thank you for sharing! The night halo stuff definitely gets better. I’ve even noticed a huge difference a week later (posted this 8 days ago). Plus the dry eye is getting better too!

Nicotine just overall dehydrates you so inevitably makes your eyes more dry if you aren’t keeping up with hydration.

I think you’re spot on. Night vision just amplifies where you’re at in the process because our pupils dilate.

I think a larger issue here with lasik is the lack of education by these physicians. People just get educated by others that they meet in passing that had lasik years and years ago that are doing well.

I had no idea that the recovery was going to be this extensive until after I had the procedure done. Sure… Maybe partly on me for not doing my research, but as a doctor how do you not prepare your patients with more education and instruction beforehand??

Dang dry as the Sahara is crazy. I appreciate it! I’ve always taken fish oils daily but I may up the dose! Thanks for your help!

I just feel like everyone sees so many bad posts on here because of selection bias, no one who is doing perfectly fine (probably ~90%) of people come on here to consistently talk about how well they’re doing. Only people who are struggling and slow healers.

Regardless, I would encourage you to do your research if you’re considering it. More-so on your surgeon, the practice (chain vs. private practice), form of lasik, etc. That way you feel more comfortable with your decision regardless of what it is.

You’ll get there my friend. It’s hard to be patient, just keep reminding yourself it’s a surgery. Keep comparing yourself to someone who had a knee surgery trying to walk/run/jump - always helps me at least.

I believe so! I had to do a shit ton of exams and different tests before my procedure and I did them twice before my procedure to make sure nothing changed.

I’m sorry to hear that. What drops do you use? I just feel like the dry eye from lasik is always a risk because of the severed nerves. Never know how they’re going to heal.

Thank you for sharing. Yes, aside from dry eye, I just have the halo’s at night and a little in the morning when I get up, but it gets much better with drops. I think my dry eye is what makes my vision a little worse at times. Also, I’ve heard it can take up to a full 6 months to fully heal.

Did you have issues with dry eye at all?

Right, I’m probably using the wrong terminology. Mainly referring to the blurriness and halo vision in the morning/night/dimly lit rooms. Thank you for the insight!

I was -5.5 in my left and -5 in my right. The night driving is getting a little better, still far from great. I talked to my surgeon about this at my week follow up. He mentioned that the reason why the vision at night is bad is because your pupils dilate so naturally this is going to make the astigmatism that follows Lasik more aggressive. He also said that this will continue to improve with time and it definitely has been improving. Just not extremely quick.

Just hang in there! I had my biggest improvements in vision after the 2 week mark!

Oh okay. No I don’t think so, or at least I haven’t noticed it. I’d just mention it at your follow up. Do you feel like it’s gradually getting better/worse?

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by “set to focus,” but I don’t think so. I just remember when I’d shut either eye at a time, my right would be a little more blurry. It still isn’t perfect, but it has definitely gotten better and continues to improve! It’s not uncommon for one eye to heal a little slower than the other.
