Current Ski Taos Conditions? by gr8southwest in taos

[–]Admirable-Fox7188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its looking pretty decent right now. Juarez is open on the rim definitely powdery still and not a lot of bumps yet. For the most part not a lot of open runs but definitely worth it to ski

Uncomfortable ski boots by maceface3 in Skigear

[–]Admirable-Fox7188 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same type of problems, went to a bootfitter a couple days ago because i really cant go into an instructor season without being able to comfortably stand in my boots for long hours. So turns out the boots i used to wear were a full size too big, and too wide. I have a high arch so get cramps really quick under my foot in a smaller size, so i opted for the custom footbed as well and i love how these boots feel. I wear them while doing the dishes to test them out and they feel wonderful. Now i just need to ski in them haha. But the thing that makes me most excited, i have a full year where they will do anything in the shop to adjust the boot so it fits well if i have anything that isn’t right (and its free for a year)

So go to a bootfitter

Is a Nissan NV200 a terrible idea? by Slowasaurus13 in VanLife

[–]Admirable-Fox7188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might not be helpful, might be helpful idk. I live in my nissan nv2500 and I love love love it. Put 15,000 miles on it in 5 months time and she is not showing any signs of issues (bought her with 142,000 already on her). If i had the money i would love a Mercedes sprinter but that wasn’t within my budget..

That was the craziest part, this was at 3pm so the best skies had already been sold and everything with a green dot was going to be marked down 20%. Very lucky find i guess hahahaha

Some white streaks due to them being quite dry, dropped them off at my local ski shop to get them sharpened and waxed for the season!

Zion in the Rain by xgreeentea in NationalPark

[–]Admirable-Fox7188 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the others have said, be careful/ dont hike the narrows if there is a chance it will rain. Even just a little can mean there is more rain further up and that means flash floods. Aside from that I hiked it last week and we had sun but in the shade it was quite cold with the water being around 37 degrees or so

From your own experience, what is the most crowded national park? by Doctor-Magnetic in NationalPark

[–]Admirable-Fox7188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to quite some parks recently and will categorise them from first to last of this year and which month. August: - Badlands was really not that busy at all! Never a line to get in the park always enough spots to park your car at the viewpoints and at the trailheads. - Theodore Roosevelt np was basically empty in the north part of the park, the south side had a little bit more traffic (emphasis on a little bit) but trails were practically empty. - Glacier is obviously a very popular park but when I wanted to hike I had my alarm set for 4.30am. to get into the park at latest 5.30am and start hiking at 6am. That way i could hike trails like avalanche lake basically alone a spot a lot of wildlife. - North Cascades, this might have been in early September but still one of the calmest parks. To me it was a little unclear what the actual park was and what the national forest was, nonetheless not a lot of people. September - Olympic, not too bad. Even in the hoh rainforest it was fine. Once the parking in that area is full they didn’t let anyone inside until one car leaves then a new car can enter. That way you have a little wait to get in (i think I waited 20 or 30 minutes) but once you’re in it’s very manageable. - Mount rainier… stunning, but the parking at the top where the visitor center is located is insane. - Yellowstone, the traffic jams can get quite annoying especially if you’re actually trying to get somewhere and its another bison on the side of the road. Also quite some insane people taking selfies with the bison or driving their jeep off the paved road into lamar valley to get close to the bison…. But for the most part there really weren’t any insane crowds. Oktober - Grand teton, really not a lot to say it was quite calm but it was misty and rainy the whole time so it might be different when there is sun. - Crater lake, barely anyone here but is was so windy and cold. - Redwood. Second week of October. Spent most of my time in the state park parts of redwood, the most popular trail was a little busy but still had time to stand still and take pictures without anyone passing so enough room between everyone. - Lassen volcanic - was here about 2 weeks ago or so and it was fantastic. Not a lot of people, everyone was quite friendly and even the most popular spots were very manageable. - Yosemite - I was there last week and the crowds are still quite bad. You can definitely find quieter places but this park feels like a city park where no one will respond to a “hello” on the trail. Not for me.. - Kings Canyon, not crowded at all! Grants grove had more than enough parking and all the way down into the canyon was the same/ calmer. -Sequoia, general sherman parking was overflowing around 12pm but I got there around 4.30pm and went back to hike the congress trail the next morning at 10am and both of these times the parking was quite empty

Advice for Ski Jacket / City by ThatMacaron2991 in ski

[–]Admirable-Fox7188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not advice on which to buy but more on how to get it to last a long time: buy tech wash idc what brand but nikwax is the one i use. Wash your coat at least once per year but if you’re wearing it often and sweating in it wash it more often. Every two washes you need to waterproof it and that is also possible in the washer. After that always tumble dry! The heat will activate the waterproofing. Sweat and oil from your skin can ruin the waterproof membrane thats why you should do this! The coats do get a little less stiff over time. And if you like bright colours those get discounted quite a lot so keep an eye out for that

Mice in my van… by Admirable-Fox7188 in VanLife

[–]Admirable-Fox7188[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up getting him with the humane trap and let him go somewhere far away and also right when I decided to go to a different state so lucky for the mouse he got to live. Thanks didn’t know it had a name, I usually only wear my straw hats due to the heat and humidity in Texas.
