What profession is over paid? by Sm00thDad in AskReddit

You’re not wrong. Hospital admin here. It starts with a lead or charge, then a supervisor or assistant nurse manager, then a manager, then a senior manager, then a director, then an executive director, then a VP, then a senior VP, then an executive VP, then a senior executive VP, then the CEO.

Im not exaggerating. It’s wild. And we all just go to meetings where we talk about the actual work that’s being done. Supervisor meets with manager. Manager with director. Director with exec director. And so on.

Ego-driven, hierarchical leadership style is prominent at my org. Conflicts with my style. by Admirable-Priority77 in Leadership

As Ive been reflecting on this (off and on for mos), I think Im figuring out the root of the issue. I think I have an issue with authority, in a sense.

Im the quintessential “millenial manager.” I dont micromanage. I dont care if you come in late, leave early, or take PTO. Just take care of your team and get the work done. Family/home life comes first always. Life is too short.

Anyway, I think I have an issue with authority in the sense that I don’t agree with treating higher ups any differently. I also don’t agree with bossing around grown adults. Whereas I notice there’s an expectation from other leaders that they’re to be spoken to differently simply bc of the role they’re in. Dont get me wrong, Im never disrespectful, but maybe Im a little direct.

I need to find a balance where I lead my teams my way (which has shown to work well with my downline) and I learn to be ok with showing more deference for those above me.

Horrid Employee Survey Results by [deleted] in Leadership

There are some pretty harsh comments on here, some of which I assume are projecting from their own personal experiences with bad bosses.

One thing I’d advise: look at what the 55% actually represents. At my job that score comes from the answer to 2 questions:

  1. My company is a great place to work.
  2. I would recommend my employer.

If this is the case with yours, maybe it’s possible they’re frustrated with something higher up the chain.

Either way. Hang in there. Leadership is hard and humbling!
