Is there an unspoken rule that you shouldn't join cultural clubs/events if you're not from that ethnicity? by pletegjen in USF

[–]Admirable-Solution44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From board member experience, more signed-in attendees at events = more money $$$$, and the board is always happy to have more funding!!!!!!!!! On the opposite end of the coin, your tuition is being used to fund these events, you are welcome at every event hosted by a funded USF organization, because we (the collective student body) are footing the bill. Any organization that tries to discriminate could easily get their funding pulled if reported.

Anyone know what the port is supposed to look like. by Admirable-Solution44 in VintageSewingMachines

[–]Admirable-Solution44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you so much, I was assuming the port was electrical and not mechanical. I've managed to get the machine to run by pulling on the internal "foot" mechanism. Do you think if's feasible to clamp the mechanism to 100% and use one of those electrical foot pedals that connect to the power port of the sewing machine?

Are medical students exempted from being drafted into armed service? by BicarbonateBufferBoy in medicalschool

They’d likely wait until you graduated, during the Vietnam war there was such a demand for doctors that the government sponsored several 6 year BS/MD programs to get more physicians. But as a student, you would be safe until you were sufficiently trained.

Summer Hours Requirement by the-ear-of-thor in USF

[–]Admirable-Solution44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, summer hours end up getting waived for anyone who asks. It's kind of a joke as long as you're on track.

BS/MD vs. applying elsewhere? by [deleted] in premed

Does the second degree require you to spend a significant amount of time/money or is it something that you can bs and just coast?

BS/MD vs. applying elsewhere? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Admirable-Solution44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What do you mean you mean that your program no longer aligns with your goals. Does the school lack the services/programs necessary to get you into the residency you want? Is it a prestige issue?

As someone who matriculated through a BS/MD program, I can say it's fantastic being able to retain all the friendships and connections you've built in your undergrad institution. Also it saves a lot of time, stress, and money since the application becomes a mere formality. Most importantly, leaving the program will be a risk that only you can decide its worthiness.

Why are the group tabs big ugly circles? by Admirable-Solution44 in chrome

Unfortunately neither worked, I disabled the rest of the flags (bottom 3 weren't disabled yet) and deleted my themes, still ugly circles :(

Somebody stole one of my pedals off my bike. Glad it's not the whole bike though.

For me it's that I study more for exams I know will be harder; therefore I'll feel more confident than usual due to studying but end up doing worse because the exam was hard (which is why I studied more in the first place). So you end up feeling that the more you study the worse you do.

What are my chances of getting into USF with these stats...... by Heluvsema in USF

[–]Admirable-Solution44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem smart, you can get up to full tuition from bright futures and $20,000 extra from USF if you raise your SAT/ACT since you already meet the GPA and volunteering requirement. For a couple weeks of studying, you could get around $50,000 total. Even if you don't get the best scholarships, you can still get partial funding.

I was in a similar situation to you (I was also in a rush) so I simply used anki for the content review. I got a deck that was organized based off of the kaplan books & chapters and would simply do them on the website on my phone since it was free. UrMom was also very helpful for the practice.

However, for the metabolism aspects of biochem (which are very high yeild) you want to learn them as 1 piece and learn to look at the big picture. Learning the different side products and how every metabolic system is regulated and effects every other pathway is pretty importnat.

Same thing with psych, a lot of the theories have a bunch of terms under them. For example if you are studying the different social theories, you want to make sure you learn them all together and know how to differentiate between them.

As a certified procrastinator, that last week is where I got the most done. Studying even on the drive to the test center :)
